Manchester United’s two consecutive losses in the Premier League against Leicester City and Liverpool sealed the Premier League title for Manchester City. Manchester City have been brilliant in the second half of the league and some players stepped up to ensure another league title for the Citizens under Guardiola. The Citizens collected 80 points from 35 games this season and have scored 72 goals (most in PL) so far with three games remaining. United have sealed their Champions League spot with 70 points from 36 games so far. However, the next two spots are up for grabs with Leicester on 66 points, Chelsea on 64 points, Liverpool on 60 points, and West Ham on 58 points.

The relegation is also decided with Fulham, West Brom, and Sheffield United going down to the Championship. West Ham have been one of the best teams in the league this season and are currently on fifth. They have a good chance of making it to Europe next season. So, which players have impressed in the Premier League this season? Let’s take a look at the Premier League team of the season.

The formation is a bit weird and an unbalanced 4-3-3, but the intention was to pick the players who have been most impressive in the English Premier League.

Goalkeeper – Edouard Mendy (Chelsea)

Arguably the signing of the season, Mendy has been phenomenal for Chelsea this season. He has 16 clean sheets from 29 games. Chelsea has conceded just 33 goals in the league(2nd least), and Mendy has definitely played his part with many stunning saves. He just edges City's Ederson to take our goalkeeper position.

Right-back – Joao Cancelo (Manchester City)

Always reliable this season, the versatile Cancelo has been a fine player for City. The Portuguese international has performed consistently this season, scoring once and setting up 3 goals in 26 appearances for Manchester City. Some more impressive stats are tackles succeeded (59%), key passes (44), chances created (47), dribbles (47/59%). He deserved his place in this lineup as he has been the best right back in the league this season.

Centre-back – Ruben Dias (Manchester City)

Another big-money signing for Manchester City, Dias has just transformed City’s defence since joining. He is already getting the PFA POTY shouts. He has been one of the reasons why City conceded the fewest in the league. In Virgil van Dijk’s absence, Dias has been the best centre-back in the league this season.

Centre-back – John Stones (Manchester City)

It looked like Stones’ career at City was done after the signing of Ake and Dias, but the former Everton defender stepped up in the absence of Laporte and combined well with Dias to form the best defensive duo in the Premier League and probably even in the world. He has also scored four goals for the Citizens this season.

Left-back – Luke Shaw (Manchester United)

Luke Shaw has really transformed himself this season and it looks like he is back at his best. Mourinho didn’t like Shaw during his tenure and it's been a long way for Shaw since then. The 25-year-old left-back has five assists and one goal to his name this season.

Midfielder – Ilkay Gundogan (Manchester City)

The German midfielder stepped up for City in Kevin De Bruyne’s absence and has been one of the best midfielders in the world this season. Gundogan has scored 12 goals & assisted once, manages 91% passing accuracy, and 38 key passes.

Midfielder – Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United)

The 26-year-old Portuguese midfielder is the heart of Manchester United’s midfield. It all starts with him. He has big numbers this season for United including 18 goals and 11 assists. He has also created 105 chances and managed 94 key passes this season.

Midfielder – Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City)

The 29-year-old Belgian international has featured 24 times for City this season but he never fails to get his mark on the game. He has 5 goals and 11 assists this season for City and is a strong contender for the PFA Player of the Year award. He has created 84 chances and managed 73 key passes in the league this season.

Right-winger – Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)

The Egyptian international has bagged 21 goals in four assists this season and is on the level with Harry Kane in the golden boot race. Many have written him off after Liverpool’s dreadful title chase this season but his numbers speak for himself. Despite struggling, Salah has big numbers and deserves to be on this list.

Striker – Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur)

Tottenham have had a topsy-turvy Premier League season. The 27-year-old English striker has 21 goals and 13 assists this season. Apart from scoring, Kane has been heavily involved in Tottenham’s gameplay and has created 58 chances in the process. Without a doubt, he has been the best striker in the league.

Left-winger – Heung-Min Son (Tottenham Hotspur)

Son was in an electric form at the start of the season, however, he hasn’t been able to replicate that in the later stages. Despite Tottenham’s struggles, Son has scored 17 goals and bagged 10 assists and made a formidable duo with Harry Kane.
