18 year old Dutch Wonderkid Sean Steur is reportedly attracting transfer interest from Premier League clubs Arsenal, Manchester United, and Liverpool. Ajax are a club that have historically developed some of the greatest young players of all time in football, and thus it's no surprise to a promising player like Steur being linked with some of Europe's biggest clubs.
Steur has already made 10 appearances in the Eredivisie this season for Ajax, despite just turning 18 in mid January. He is widely seen as one of the best young players in the league, and it is absolutely certain that Ajax would not want to let go of their star kid unless a huge offer that's too good to be turned down is proposed by any club.
Sean Steur - The Manchester United target's career so far
Steur, born in Purmerend, began his football journey at RKAV Volendam before joining Ajax’s youth academy in 2016. He comes from a footballing family, being the son of former professional Johan Steur and the younger brother of goalkeeper Roy Steur, and has spoken about his dream of playing alongside his brother one day.
He made his professional debut for Jong Ajax in May 2024 and signed his first professional contract that August. After breaking into first-team training during the 2024–25 season, Steur made his Eredivisie debut and continued his rise in 2025–26, earning more senior minutes, including a Champions League appearance. His performances, especially in De Klassieker against Feyenoord at just 17, drew major praise for his maturity. He is also a regular Netherlands youth international as well.
What new transfer report says about Ajax teenage sensation Sean Steur
A report from Teamtalk mentions that several Premier League giants are closely monitoring Ajax midfielder Steur. The report mentions that Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United have all sent scouts to watch him in recent weeks, while BlueCo and City Group, linked to Chelsea and Manchester City, have been tracking him for even longer. Tottenham and Newcastle, who are big admirers of Smit, have also checked in on Ajax’s young midfield prodigy.
Ajax are keen to keep Steur long-term, with some at the club comparing his potential to Frenkie de Jong. The teenager has made 30 appearances this season, scoring twice and registering four assists. Contracted until 2028, Ajax holds strong leverage, but with growing interest, his long-term future in Amsterdam looks uncertain.
Where should Sean Steur join? Our opinion
Ajax were once arguably the best club in world football for a young player to develop, but that isn't the case anymore. They are not the same dominant Dutch club that they used to be, and it might actually be better for Steur if he leaves Ajax and takes the next big step of his career when he's in huge demand at the moment.
Coming to the club we would pick out of Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United, there is one club that we would absolutely not join at the moment if we were in his place. That club is none other than Manchester United, who have had a terrible record with youth players in the past decade. The unfavorable situation of Kobbie Mainoo during the Ruben Amorim reign at United is a prime example of this.
Liverpool and Arsenal would be better options for the player. Although Arsenal are currently the better club, we personally think Steur would be more suited to Liverpool, especially if Dutch manager Arne Slot stays. Even if Slot leaves, Steur will still have a better chance to develop at Anfield due to less competition in midfield. Arsenal's midfield has the likes of Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi, which would make it quite difficult for Steur to get decent chances at the club.
Wherever he ends up playing, Steur does look like a star in the making as things stand. We wish him all the best and hope to see him as a huge star one day.
