Title Race heated up in 2Bundesliga

The title race in the second division in Germany heats up as the top four teams are all on 42 points.

La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1 all have an exciting title race in store for football fans but none of them have a points table as congested as 2.Bundesliga. Hamburger FC, Furth, VLF Bochum, Holstein Kiel all are on 42 points at the top of the table. Not only that but the teams are separated based on goal difference which could change in a single game as the 1st and 4th teams are only separated by a GD of 5. Karlsruher are 5th with 36 points along with Dusseldorf who wear relegated from the Bundesliga last season. Both the teams could still end up getting promoted with 12 games still left to play.

The top 4 teams tied on 42 points have been in splendid form this season. Hamburger FC missed out on a playoff spot by just one point last season. But in their second consecutive season in the 2nd division, the German side has been consistent so far this season thanks to the league’s top scorer Simon Terodde. Holstein Kiel pulled off a major upset earlier this season when they knocked out treble winners Bayern Munich on penalties in the second round of the DFB Pokal cup. Furth has only played 1 season in the top flight this century and has shown this season that they want another bite at the cherry. VFL Bochum was considered a yo-yo club between 1994 and 2011 bouncing between the top 2 divisions of the german tier. But ever since getting relegated in 2010 the club has failed to earn a promotion but on the bright side, they have managed to stay in the 2.Bundesliga. This year they are in a great position to go back to the big league after 11 years.

The lower divisions of England, Germany, Italy, and Spain are always said to be very competitive as both promotion and relegation are never too far off. Notting Forrest in the last Championship season missed out on a play-offs place only on Goal Difference that too on the last day. Between 2007 and 2017 Sunderland were considered a premier league quality club but after back to back relegations in 2017 and 2018 the English side is in the middle of the 3rd division. Such instances are normal in the lower divisions where the quality of football might be a level lower but the drive and desire bring the excitement.
