Top 5 Players Barcelona Can Sign in the Summer

Barcelona are unlikely to spend heavily in the January transfer window, but with some issues to address, they may be tempted to enter the market.

Most transfer conversations involving Barcelona are, once again, constrained by financial constraints. The squad might still benefit from some investment, but despite Joan Laporta's use of financial "levers," the money is either not available or La Liga will not allow the club to spend it.  Barcelona's transfer policies have been questioned at times, particularly after Messi's departure. It is quite evident that the Blaugrana never wanted to lose the captain of Argentina's most feared front three. That combination, comprised of three of the world's top strikers, terrified Europe for four years before winning the triple in 2016. But the team hasn’t been the same since and now lacks some depth in some departments.

Keeping that in mind, let’s take a look at the top 5 players the Catalan side can sign in the summer.

Lionel Messi

Barcelona is apparently confident of obtaining La Liga approval to recruit Lionel Messi. They feel that by adopting their feasibility plan, the league will grant them some leeway. Barcelona's vice president, Rafael Yuste, claimed that they are working behind the scenes to sign Lionel Messi and are also attempting to submit their strategy to La Liga to demonstrate how they intend to earn revenue.

Inigo Martinez

Inigo Martinez of Athletic Club is thought to have finalised terms with Barcelona in the previous few weeks and will move in the summer when his contract with Bilbao expires.

The specifics of Barcelona's contract offer to Martinez have been revealed by Sport. The 31-year-old has signed a two-year contract and will earn around €9 million each season, which is said to be comparable to his current salary at Athletic.

Vitor Roque

Vitor Roque is adamant about joining Barcelona. The Brazilian sensation is willing to wait for the Catalan giants' finances to be in order. And, rather of joining Arsenal or another club, he will join Spotify Camp Nou when he departs Athletico Paranaense. Vitor Roque is one of his country's most promising young players. He was a Cruzeiro youth division graduate who also represented America Mineiro throughout his childhood career. However, the 18-year-old has come to prominence since joining Athletico Paranaense a year ago.

Sofyan Amrabat

Sofyan Amrabat, a key figure in Morocco's improbable journey to the World Cup semi-finals in Qatar at the end of 2022. The 26-year-old tried unsuccessfully to push his way out of Fiorentina near the end of the winter transfer window. If Barcelona wants to sign the hardworking midfielder, they will have to improve on their reported offer of a €3mn ($3.2mn) loan fee with a €37mn ($38mn) option to purchase.

Yannick Carrasco

When Barcelona offloaded Memphis Depay to his current club Atletico Madrid, they couldn’t agree on a €15 million ($16 million) option to acquire Yannick Carrasco. With the Belgian's contract expiring in 2024, President Joan Laporta is anticipated to strive to reduce this figure.
