Charles Leclerc was born in Monte Carlo, Monaco, on October 16, 1997. His father, Hervé Leclerc, was a former Formula 3 driver and karting champion, therefore he grew up in a racing family.

In 2014, he made his single-seater debut, racing in the Formula Renault 2.0 Alps and Euro cup series. He won the Alps and came in second in the Euro cup.
