The Spanish GP 2026 took place at the new Madrid Circuit, and this was an important race for Kimi Antonelli, Max Verstappen and Lando Norris. George Russell also needed to do well in this race.

Race Results

As the race started, Kimi Antonelli put pressure on Lando Norris, but Lando was able to take the early lead. Max Verstappen was able to get to P2 due to an error by Kimi Antonelli in the second lap. Max Verstappen had to give up his P2 to let Kimi Antonelli and Lewis Hamilton through. By Lap 7, Lewis Hamilton was forced to retire from the race, which allowed Max Verstappen to once again get P3. Franco Colapinto and Liam Lawson were battling for P6 in the middle. The two Spanish drivers, Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz, collided with each other, resulting in a 5-second penalty for Carlos Sainz. Lance Stroll was forced to retire at Lap 20, thus resulting in the second retirement of the race.


After the restart from the safety car, Kimi Antonelli was looking to get past Charles Leclerc, but the wheels were giving him an issue. Lando Norris had a disastrous start after the Safety Car, and he got past George Russell. Ferrari were taking a risk keeping Charles Leclerc out so long in the hopes of another safety car. Kimi Antonelli had stretched his lead to 2 seconds ahead of Max Verstappen, who was Lando Norris. For P8 there were 3 drivers fighting, and they were Gabriel Bortoletto, Franco Colapinto and Oscar Piastri. The last 10 laps remained, and Kimi Antonelli, Max Verstappen and Lando Norris were in a tough battle for the podium places.


By Lap 48, Charles Leclerc was finally pitted, which allowed the Top 3 to decide the positions on the podium. Kimi Antonelli picked up the pace, and Max Verstappen finished in P2, with Lando Norris finishing in P3. Kimi Antonelli won by a margin of 4.2 seconds. Charles Leclerc and George Russell finished in P4 and P5, rounding out the Top 5. Liam Lawson finished 6th in this race. Kimi Antonelli extended his lead to 81 points over George Russell in the Drivers Championship.
