India completely dominated Malaysia on the third day (6 August) of the Hero Asian Champions Trophy Chennai 2023, where the hosts won by 5-0.

In the entire game, Malaysia earned only one penalty corner, while the home team earned it ten times, including three successful goals.

Q1 (Final Scoreline): India 1 (Selvam Karthi 15’) — Malaysia 0

In the final minute of the first quarter, the young Indian forward Karthi Selvam opened the scoreline with a field goal.

In the second quarter, India earned two back-to-back penalty corners but couldn’t utilise those.

India took full control of the game in the third quarter, where the hosts scored twice from penalty corners. In the second minute of the quarter, Hardik Singh made the scoreline 2-0 for the hosts.

Four minutes later, Malaysia earned their only penalty corner of the entire match. Although Najmi Jazlan successfully netted that penalty corner opportunity, that goal was overturned after India’s referral due to a dangerous flick.   

In the 42nd minute, Indian captain Harmanpreet Singh utilised another penalty corner to make the scoreline 3-0 for his team.


Q4 (Final Scoreline): India 5 (Gurjant Singh 53’; Jugraj Singh 54’) — Malaysia 0

Gurjant Singh (53’) and Jugraj Singh (54’) scored once each in the final quarter to set up a big 5-0 win for the hosts. While Gurjant scored a field goal with a deflection, Jugraj powerfully utilized a penalty corner.
