With one goal in each quarter, the hosts India thrashed Pakistan in the last game of the league stage in the Hero Asian Champions Trophy Chennai 2023.

As India won that game, they finished at the top of the points table with 13 points. Malaysia managed the second spot in the final points table with 12 points.

In India vs Pakistan match, Pakistan could secure their place in the semi-finals of the tournament even after a defeat but with a maximum one-goal deficit. But the result against India forced the Pakistan team to slip the fifth spot in the final points table with five points.

South Korea and Japan are the other semi-finalists in the tournament with five points each who had better goal differences than Pakistan.

In the semi-finals of the Hero Asian Champions Trophy Chennai 2023 on Friday (11 August), Malaysia will handle South Korea, and India will fight against Japan.

Pakistan threatened the early stage of the game. In the second minute, Hannan Shahid netted the ball, but the goal was disallowed due to the ball dangerously being raised off the goalkeeper.

After some tight battle, India earned the first penalty corner of the match in the final minute of the quarter. Captain Harmanpreet Singh utilized that opportunity by providing the 1-0 lead for the hosts.

In the eighth minute of the second quarter, India got their second penalty corner, and once again, the skipper Harmanpreet struck successfully.

In the sixth minute of the third quarter, Jugraj Singh utilised a penalty corner by scoring for the hosts.

In the 41st minute, India’s goal was disallowed due to the dangerous ball.


Q4 (Final Scoreline): India 4 (Akashdeep Singh 55’) — Pakistan 0

In the 55th minute, Akashdeep Singh’s field goal not only provided the 4-0 lead for India, but Pakistan also lost their space for the top-four finish.
