Women's FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 First Round Day 5

On the fifth day of the Women’s FIH Hockey World Cup 2026, the hosts and last three-time champions Netherlands thrashed Japan, while Chile and Australia had a high-scoring draw. Meanwhile, Argentina finished on top of Pool B, while Germany turned the table to advance to the second round with a must-win against the United States.

  

Women’s FIH Hockey World Cup 2026: First Round – Day 5 Results

(Pool A)

Chile 4–4 Australia

In the final minute of the second quarter, Courtney Schonell put Australia ahead from a penalty corner. Laura Müller equalised the scoreline for Chile in the 34th minute. While Abigail Wilson (41’) helped Aussies to regain the lead, Chile once again levelled after Manuela Urroz (47’) successfully netted. After Clair Colwill (52’) scored the third goal for Australia, Florencia Barrios (53’) and Fernanda Villagrán (55’) scored back-to-back goals to put Chile ahead for the first time, but Mariah Williams secured one point for Australia with a final-minute goal. 


With four points, Australia Women have advanced to the second round after securing second place in Pool A, as their first two matches ended with a 2-0 win against Japan and a 4-2 defeat against Australia. In the meantime, the last-placed Chile lost their first two games of the tournament, as Netherlands and Japan beat them by 2-0 and 3-0, respectively. 


Netherlands 9–0 Japan

Nine-time champions and the co-hosts Netherlands finished Pool A as champions after outclassing Japan by 9-0. While Yibbi Jansen (5’, 23’, 25’ & 51’) scored four goals, Marijn Veen (15’ & 34’) and Felice Albers (21’ & 53’) scored braces, and Frédérique Matla (46’) scored the other goal. 


Netherlands also won their first two games with the 2-0 and 4-2 scorelines against Chile and Australia, respectively.


(Pool B)

Argentina 2–0 Scotland

Two-time champions Argentina secured the top spot of Pool B with a 2-0 win against Scotland. María Granatto scored the opening goal in the 11th minute, while Lara Casas added one more in the 41st minute. 


Starting the tournament with a 1-1 draw against the United States, Argentina recorded a 3-2 victory against Germany. On the other hand, Scotland have lost all three games of the group, as they previously suffered 3-0 and 3-2 defeats against Germany and the United States, respectively. 


United States 1–3 Germany

With a 3-1 victory against the United States, two-time champions Germany have qualified for the second round with a second-place finish in Pool B. Jette Fleschütz (21’) and Lisa Nolte (33’) put Germany 2-0 ahead before Ashley Sessa opened the scoreline for the United States in the 39th minute. Fleschütz scored her second goal in the 43rd minute, which was enough for their win. 


While Germany began the tournament with a 3-0 victory against Scotland, they narrowly lost against Argentina by 3-2. In the meantime, the United States had four points before their final game of the group with a 1-1 draw and 3-2 win against Argentina and Scotland, respectively.
