The 2023-24 I-League 2 will be the 16th edition of the league and the second season as the country's third division of men’s club football. Eight teams will participate in the latest edition of the I-league 2 with the top two earning promotion to the 2024/25 I-League season. The bottom two clubs in the standings will be relegated and will play I-league 3 next season. The I-League 2 will be played on a home-and-away basis in a double round-robin format. The league will take a 40-day gap between February 12 and March 23 to accommodate the Santosh Trophy Final Round. The league will run until the last week of April.
This is also the first time the clubs who reached the final round last season but did not earn promotion to the 2023-24 I-League have been reinstated. FC Bengaluru United, United SC and The Oranje FC, formerly Ambernath United Atlanta FC, are those three teams keeping their place. They are joined by two clubs Mumbai Kenkre FC and Sudeva Delhi FC who were relegated from the 2022-23 I-League and three teams - Sporting Clube de Goa, Dempo SC and Sporting Club Bengaluru promoted from I-League 3. Sporting Clube de Goa and Dempo SC are the only clubs in the mix to have experienced I-League football in the past.
