AIFF launched a new-age group level of the Men’s National Football Championship for the U-20 in February 2024. The tournament will be known as the ‘Swami Vivekananda U20 National Football Championship’. The championship will be held at the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama in Narainpur, Chhattisgarh and is slated to start from April 2024. Players born on and after January 1, 2005 and not later than December 1, 2007, will be eligible to participate.
The initiative comes after the U21 league was discontinued due to the pandemic. The federation wanted to fill the existing void at this level and bridge the gap in the youth structure pyramid from U-17 to Santosh Trophy. 32 state associations have accepted the invite sent by AIFF to participate in the U-20 level. The teams were divided into eight groups with hosts Chattisgarh in Group B. The matches will be played in phases with Group C and E matches taking place at first.
