The delayed 2025-26 I-League 2 season is set to kick off on 27 March 2026, with nine teams competing for promotion to the rebranded Indian Football League. The clubs include the two promoted sides from I-League 3, Karbi Anglong Morning Star FC and MYJ–GMSC and the relegated teams from the second division, Sporting Bengaluru and Delhi FC. Furthermore, Sudeva Delhi FC has been reinstated to the I-League 2 based on the decision made by the AIFF Executive Committee. TRAU FC and KLASA FC were relegated from the division last season, while the winners and runners-up from last season, Diamond Harbour FC and Chanmari FC, earned promotion to the second tier.
Just like the other leagues in the Indian men’s football pyramid, the third tier will be played in a truncated format. The 2025-26 I-League 2 season will be played in a single round robin home-and-away format, with each team playing once against all opponents, four at home and four away. The champions and runners-up will be promoted to the 2026-27 Indian Football League. The ninth-placed club, along with Sports Academy Tirur, which withdrew from I-League 2 2025-26 before the start of the season, will be relegated to I-League 3 2026-27. A total of nine different venues will host the games, with Bengaluru and Delhi having the most participating clubs, with two.
The season will commence at the Cooperage Ground in Mumbai with host MYJ–GMSC welcoming Sporting Bengaluru in the afternoon kick-off, while the promoted side Karbi Anglong Morning Star FC face Sudeva Delhi FC in the evening fixture in the double header on the opening day. The 2025-26 I-League 2 will be played over two months, with the last pair of games scheduled on 15 May 2026. In the early kick-off on the final day, United SC hosted Delhi FC at the Kalyani Stadium whereas Sporting Goa locked horns with Sporting Bengaluru in Bambolim later.
