After almost half a year's delay due to uncertainty over the league’s future, the 2025-26 Indian Super League (ISL) season is set to kick off from 14 February 2026 with Mohun Bagan hosting Kerala Blasters at the Salt Lake Stadium. The official fixture list was announced by AIFF on 7 February 2026 after the finalisation of broadcasters earlier in the month. This season, the league will be played in a truncated format because of the short period, spanning over four months only. This is due to the half-year delay caused by the MRA renewal disagreement, which was signed in 2010, between the federations and league’s previous owners, FSDL, the adoption of the new AIFF constitution and finalising the new structure of the league, both short and long term. ISL will be operated by the AIFF from now on, with the administrative factors in their hand while clubs manage the commercial side of things. The confirmation of the league restarting was given by the Sports Ministry of India.
The league will have 91 matches this season, played in a Swiss model, with each team playing 13 games against different opponents, home and away. Effectively, there are no reverse fixtures this time out, with teams getting to face each other only once. Shield winners Mohun Bagan Super Giant have chosen Salt Lake Stadium as their home venue as usual, while the other Kolkata giant Mohammedan SC, will host games at the Kishore Bharoti Krinangan, Kolkata. However, the decision for the Black Panthers is still pending, having chosen the JRD Tata Complex as their ground to host home matches for the season earlier. Similarly, FC Goa, Jamshedpur FC, Bengaluru FC, NorthEast United, and Chennaiyin FC will play their home games at their respective venues. Kerala Blasters have also confirmed their home matches at Kochi after initially thinking of shifting base to Kozhikode.
Meanwhile, Punjab FC and SC Delhi will share the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi for their home games. However, three clubs, namely Odisha FC, Mumbai City FC and promoted side Inter Kashi, are yet to confirm their venues with the availability of the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneshwar and the Mumbai Football Arena still in question. Not every team will have equal number of home games assigned to them due to stadium availability and other constrains due to the short season. This time, the winners of the League Shield will not receive an automatic spot in the group stage of the AFC Champions League 2 due to the league being played in a truncated format, not meeting the AFC requirements for the number of games in a campaign, with an exception granted for this season. The league winners will instead play the qualifiers to get into the group stage of the AFC Champions League 2, with the other berth already taken by Goa after winning the Super Cup. Due to the AFC ban for two seasons, if the Mariners win the Shield, the spot will go to the league’s runners-up. The League Shield is also the only silverware to play for this season, with no place for playoffs in the shortened format.
