Funny and hilarious moments in the history of IPL

The IPL is often called a "carnival," and for good reason. While the high-octane finishes and gravity-defying catches provide the thrills, it’s the spontaneous humor and friendly banter that give the league its heart. From "silent protests" to mid-pitch sword fights, these moments prove that even the world’s most intense cricketers know how to laugh.

Here are six of the funniest instances in IPL history, spanning the classics to the current 2026 season.

1. The "Sword Fight" Duel (2023)

In a 2023 clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Delhi Capitals (DC), David Warner and Ravindra Jadeja turned a tense run-out attempt into a comedy sketch. After a risky run, Warner was stranded. Jadeja collected the ball and playfully threatened to dismantle the stumps. Instead of rushing back, Warner stood his ground, looked Jadeja in the eye, and perfectly mimicked Jadeja’s iconic "Sword Celebration" using his bat.

2. Kieron Pollard’s "Silent Protest" (2015)

Perhaps the most famous visual gag in IPL history. During a match against RCB, the umpires told Mumbai Indians’ Kieron Pollard to stop chirping at the batsmen. Pollard’s response was legendary: he went to the dugout and returned to the field with a giant piece of Brown tape across his mouth. He continued to field in total silence, proving that sometimes, saying nothing says everything.

3. The "Secret Choreographers" (2026)

The current 2026 season has given us a fresh gem from the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) camp. During a team photoshoot, captain Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma decided that Travis Head needed a lesson in Indian pop culture. The duo turned into "secret choreographers," trying to teach a visibly confused and stiff Travis Head high-energy Bollywood dance moves. The behind-the-scenes footage of the Aussie destroyer trying to "thumka" became an instant viral sensation.

4. Gayle Chasing Yuvraj Singh (2015)

Rain delays are usually dull, but in 2015, Chris Gayle and Yuvraj Singh made sure the fans stayed entertained. After a playful shove from Yuvraj while walking off the field, the "Universe Boss" mock-brandished his bat like a weapon and chased Yuvraj all the way to the boundary in the pouring rain. Seeing two of the game’s greatest legends acting like kids in a playground perfectly captured the IPL spirit.

5. DJ Bravo Teasing Pollard (2018)

The friendship between Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard is a goldmine for banter. In 2018, after Bravo dismissed his best friend, he didn't just celebrate—he ran right up to Pollard and performed a high-intensity "Champion" dance inches away from his face. Pollard’s "deadpan" stare while Bravo boogied around him remains a classic highlight of the MI vs. CSK rivalry.

6. Ravindra Jadeja’s "Self-Clap" (Various)

Ravindra Jadeja has a peculiar but hilarious habit of being his own biggest fan. On multiple occasions, after taking a screaming catch or a crucial wicket, Jaddu has been spotted clapping for himself or nodding approvingly at his own brilliance before his teammates even reach him. It’s a subtle, witty nod to the "Sir Jadeja" memes that have followed him for over a decade.
