The 2023 edition of Indian Premier League started with a bang. As the tournament is advancing, all the teams this year are looking for their strongest xi. Gujarat Titans
Gujarat Titans, led by Hardik Pandya, managed to win their maiden IPL season when they defeated Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets in the final. Titans were terrific throughout the IPL 2022, topping the group table with 10 victories. They then defeated the Royals in Qualifier 1 by seven wickets with three balls to spare.
The Titans look strong for this season as well with the likes of Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya, David Miller, Alzarri Joseph, Mohammed Shami and Rashid Khan in top form. Gujarat have brought in three overseas players for this season in Kane Williamson, Odean Smith and Joshua Little. Shivam Mavi and KS Bharat are the two notable Indian additions.

Delhi Capitals
The franchise from India's capital is still in search of their first championship in the IPL. Delhi Capitals had a mixed season last year where they finished fifth on the points table with seven victories and seven defeats. Rishabh Pant, who was involved in an unfortunate car accident, will be the biggest miss for the franchise this year.
David Warner will be the captain and he does have experience of leading a title-winning side. The Capitals have a strong batting line-up with the likes of Warner, Prithvi Shaw, Mitch Marsh and Rovman Powell. Rilee Rossouw could play a part at some stage. The bowling unit can be a concern as barring Anrich Nortje, they either lack experience or aren't much reliable.

Royal Challengers Bangalore
Like Delhi, Royal Challengers Bangalore have also never won a title in the IPL despite coming close on a couple of occasions. Last season they finished fourth on the table with eight victories and six losses. RCB then defeated Lucknow SuperGiants by 14 runs in the Eliminator before going down by seven wickets versus Rajasthan Royals.
Faf du Plessis leads the side for the second season in a row. Virat Kohli's form is a positive sign for them but Glenn Maxwell is returning from injury while Dinesh Karthik hadn't played any competitive cricket for a while. Harshal Patel seems to be found out while Josh Hazlewood has been injury-prone in recent times so the bowling attack remains a concern.

Rajasthan Royals
Rajasthan Royals haven't won an IPL title since the inaugural season. They came close to winning the second title last year, reaching the final but were defeated by Gujarat Titans. The Royals finished second on the table with 18 points. They lost Qualifier 1 against Gujarat but defeated RCB in Qualifier 2 to reach the final.
Lack of a quality all-rounder was a major issue for them last year and they have solved it to an extent by bringing in Jason Holder. The impact rule should also help them in this aspect. Rajasthan have a formidable top order and a top class spin department. Death overs could be a troubling phase for them with both bat and ball.

Lucknow SuperGiants
Lucknow Super Giants had a pretty good debut season, reaching the playoffs in IPL 2022. They won nine out of 14 matches in the group stage and narrowly missed the top two finish. It cost them big time as their campaign ended after suffering a 14-run loss to RCB.
LSG have strengthened their batting unit by bringing in the left-hand batter Nicholas Pooran in the middle order. Mohsin Khan is out injured but they secured Jaydev Unadkat in the auction. Mark Wood is also set to be available for the season.

Chennai Super Kings
The ‘Yellove army' Chennai Super Kings are the second most successful franchise in the IPL with four titles. Their last title came in 2021 but had an awful season next year, finishing ninth in IPL 2022. CSK won only four matches and lost 10 in the previous season.
As for this season, they have acquired the services of England superstar Ben Stokes while Sisanda Magala comes in as Kyle Jamieson replacement. Their pace attack remains a concern but spin department and batting looks pretty good, especially considering they will play half their matches at spin-friendly Chepauk.

Sunrisers Hyderabad
Sunrisers Hyderabad won their only IPL trophy in 2016 and have had a couple of poor seasons. In IPL 2022, they finished eighth in the group stage with six victories and eight defeats. SRH have made some major changes and are the most exciting team for this year.
Sunrisers let go of Kane Williamson and Nicholas Pooran, and have brought in Mayank Agarwal, Harry Brook, Heinrich Klaasen and Adil Rashid. They have a power-packed batting line-up and a decent battery of Indian pacers. Washington Sundar and Adil Rashid form a good spin department.

Kolkata Knight Riders
Kolkata Knight Riders are the former two-time champions but their record in the last eight years hasn't been great. Last year they ended up seventh on the table, winning six games and losing eight. For this season, they look completely hopeless as they're plagued with several issues.
Captain Shreyas Iyer is set to miss at least half the season while Lockie Ferguson has also suffered an injury. Nitish Rana has also hurt his ankle and could miss the start of the season. The squad they have doesn't inspire much confidence and it will all be upto Andre Russell to carry them.

Punjab Kings
Punjab Kings are one of three teams who have been part of the league since its inception but haven't won a title. They had a middling season last year, where they won half the group matches and finished sixth. In the last two years they have let go of two Indian stars in KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal.
Punjab Kings suffered a huge blow ahead of the season with the unavailability of Jonny Bairstow. They emptied their purse in the auction to bag Sam Curran for a record price but the England all-rounder hasn't been in great form. Their season rests on how well Liam Livingstone, Arshdeep Singh and Shikhar Dhawan do.

Mumbai Indians
The most successful franchise in the history of IPL, Mumbai Indians have had a couple of really bad seasons. The five-time champions ended fifth in IPL 2021 and succumbed to the bottom-place finish last year. They also haven't done much in the auction to solve their issues.
Jasprit Bumrah's unavailability is the biggest blow for Mumbai Indians although Jofra Archer being back helps a bit. Their batting unit has a bunch of out-of-form or inexperienced players while the spin department remains a major concern.
