Punjab Kings created a stunning history in the 31st match of the IPL 2025, where they hosted the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders and recorded the lowest score defended in IPL history.
It was an important match for both teams, where Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer, under whom KKR won the IPL 2024 title, won the toss and chose to bat first at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium (Mullanpur).
IPL 2025: Punjab Kings were all out for 111 runs
Punjab Kings' openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh provided an important start with a 39-run partnership for the first wicket. While Arya scored 22 off 12 balls, Singh played a knock of 30 in 15 balls. However, the openers were the only home batters to reach the 20-run mark, while only three more Punjab batters managed to reach 10 runs. They were all out on 111 runs in 15.3 overs.
Among the KKR bowlers, Harshit Rana bagged three wickets (3/25), while Varun Chakravarthy (2/21) and Sunil Narine (2/14) got two wickets each.

In reply, although KKR were struggling at 7/2 by losing both openers in the first eight balls, they were comfortably moving to the target by scoring 62/2. However, once the partnership of skipper Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi was broken, their batting completely collapsed to just 95 runs in 15.1 overs, as Punjab Kings won by 16 runs. Apart from Raghuvanshi’s 37 runs, only captain Rahane (17) and Andre Russell (17) managed to reach the 10-run mark in that innings.
Punjab Kings bowler Yuzvendra Chahal was the hero of the match as he had the bowling figures of 4-0-28-4. Also, the South African pacer Marco Jansen shone with the bowling figures of 3.1-0-17-3.

It was surely one of unforgettable matches in IPL history. Punjab Kings recorded the lowest defended total in IPL history, excluding any shortened match. The previous record in this list was 116/9 by Chennai Super Kings against Kings XI Punjab in Durban in the IPL 2009.
