IPL 2025: RCB End 14-Year Long Wait To Beat CSK In Chennai With A Record-Breaking Win

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) ended their long wait to win against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Chepauk, Chennai. RCB beat the hosts CSK by 50 runs in the eighth match of the IPL 2025.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) ended their long wait to win against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk, Chennai), as RCB beat the hosts CSK by 50 runs in the eighth match of the IPL 2025 last Friday night (28th March).

After CSK chose to field first, RCB scored 196/7 in 20 overs. The openers Phil Salt (32) and Virat Kohli (31) added valuable 30s, while the skipper Rajat Patidar scored 51 runs, and Tim David had a valuable cameo of 22 not out in eight balls.


In reply, CSK were never in the battle as the hosts were restricted to 146/8 in 20 overs. Only the opener Rachin Ravindra (41) and the no.9 batter MS Dhoni (30) reached the 30-run mark in that innings.


RCB recorded 2nd highest 1st innings IPL total against CSK in Chennai

  • RCB scored 196/7 in 20 overs. It was the second-highest first-innings IPL total for a visiting team against CSK at the MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk, Chennai). The record in this list is 202/6 in 20 overs by KKR in 2018.


RCB victories against CSK in Chennai: 2008 and 2025

  • It was RCB’s second win against CSK in Chennai. After beating CSK by 14 runs in the 2008 edition, RCB suffered eight straight losses against CSK in Chennai between 2010 and 2024 before winning their latest encounter.


RCB recorded largest win vs CSK; CSK suffered largest home defeat

  • RCB recorded their largest victory margin (by runs) against CSK by winning by 50 runs. Their previous record was winning by 37 runs in Dubai (DICS) in 2020. 

  • CSK suffered their largest home defeat (by runs). Their previous largest defeat margin at the MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk, Chennai) was losing by 46 runs against the Mumbai Indians in 2019.

  • CSK suffered their third-largest losing margin (by runs). Their top two records in this list are losing by 60 runs against the Mumbai Indians (at Wankhede in 2013) and 54 runs against the Punjab Kings (at Brabourne in 2022).

  • It was RCB’s eighth consecutive win in the IPL league stage.

  • It was RCB’s sixth T20 victory at the MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk, Chennai). Their other four wins at this venue came against other teams, including three times in 2021.
