Indian Premier League auction has always taken special limelight, and it was more special for the IPL 2024, as the first time the auction was held outside India.

On 19 December 2023, the IPL 2024 mini-auction was organized in Dubai, which was a record-breaking event. In the previous article, we covered the Most Expensive Indian Players in IPL 2024 Auction. Here we are going through the top 10 most expensive foreign players at the IPL 2024 auction.  

Of 1166 registered players, 333 names were shortlisted for the IPL 2024 auction, including 119 overseas cricketers. At the IPL 2024 auction, while 30 players were reserved for the foreign cricketers, all the slots were filled. While 42 Indian players were bought by the teams in that auction.

Mitchell Starc became the most expensive foreign player at IPL 2024 Auction. Kolkata Knight Riders bagged him with a whooping bid of 24.75 Crore. He also broke the record of most expensive player in IPL history.

Jhye Richardson (Delhi Capitals) - 5 Crore

Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore battled strongly for the Australian pacer Jhye Richardson, who started the IPL 2024 auction with a base price of INR 1.50 crore. Delhi finally won the bid for INR 5 crore.

Gerald Coetzee (Mumbai Indians) - 5 Crore

South African all-rounder Gerald Coetzee had a base price of INR 2 crore for the IPL 2024 auction, where Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, and Lucknow Super Giants battled to win. LSG joined late in the battle from INR 3.60 crore, and Mumbai Indians won the final bid for INR 5 crore.

Travis Head (SunRisers Hyderabad) - 6.80 Crore

Australian cricketer Travis Head was expected to be part of a bidding war at the IPL 2024 auction, whose base price was INR 2 crore. SunRisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings strongly challenged each other before SRH won him for INR 6.80 crore.

Rovman Powell (Rajasthan Royals) - 7.40 Crore

Caribbean cricketer Rovman Powell was the first player in the bidding war at the IPL 2024 auction, where two teams were involved in a lengthy battle. Starting from his INR 1 crore base price, Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals fought strongly, and Rajasthan won the battle for INR 7.40 crore.

Rilee Rossouw (Punjab Kings) - 8 Crore

South African cricketer Rilee Rossouw was a part of the strong bidding war at the IPL 2024 auction. It was another simple battle between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals from the base price of INR 2 crore, and Punjab Kings won his bid for INR 8 crore.

Spencer Johnson (Gujarat Titans) - 10 Crore

The newly Australian international left-arm pacer Spencer Johnson was in high demand at the IPL 2024 auction. Gujarat Titans started the bid from the base price of INR 50 lakh, and initially, Kolkata Knight Riders were the challengers till INR 75 lakh, and then Delhi Capitals replaced the Kolkata franchise in the long battle. Ultimately, Titans won the bid for INR 10 crore.

Alzarri Joseph (Royal Challengers Bangalore) - 11.50 Crore

Caribbean fast bowler Alzarri Joseph experienced a long bidding war at the IPL 2024 auction. Chennai Super Kings opened his bid for INR 1 crore (base price). Initially, it was the bidding battle between CSK and Delhi Capitals, later Lucknow Super Giants replaced CSK at INR 3.20 crore. While Royal Challengers Bangalore put in the bid for INR 6.80 crore, LSG soon returned to the battle, and finally, RCB won Alzarri for INR 11.50 crore.   

Daryl Mitchell (Chennai Super Kings) - 14 Crore

New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell received the INR 14 crore bid at the IPL 2024 auction. Delhi Capitals started the bid from the base price of INR 1 crore, and Punjab Kings had a lengthy fight against them till INR 11.50 crore before Chennai Super Kings replaced the Delhi franchise. Finally, CSK won the bid.

Pat Cummins (SunRisers Hyderabad) - 20.50 Crore

While Pat Cummins led the Australian team to win the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 trophy on 19 November 2023, a month later, he became the first cricketer to cross the INR 20 crore IPL bid as that bid was settled to the INR 20.50 crore. The record-breaking Cummins bid started from his base price of INR 2 crore, where Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians battled before Royal Challengers Bangalore replaced the Mumbai side from INR 5 crore. From INR 8 crore, it was the battle between RCB and SunRisers Hyderabad, and ultimately stubborn SRH won the battle with a bid of INR 20.50 crore.

Mitchell Starc (Kolkata Knight Riders) - 24.75 Crore

Australian left-arm fast bowler Mitchell Starc is set to make his IPL comeback after 2015 in a record-breaking way as his bid broke Cummins’ earlier highest bid in the same auction. Delhi Capitals started Starc’s bid from his base price of INR 2 crore. While the Delhi Capitals vs Mumbai Indians battle lasted long until INR 9.60 crore, Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Titans both then entered the record-breaking battle. Ultimately, KKR won the bid for the record-breaking INR 24.75 crore.
