The five-time IPL winners Chennai Super Kings (CSK) finally recorded their first win of the IPL 2026, as they beat Delhi Capitals (DC) by 23 runs at home on Saturday night (11th April). The wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson was the hero of the match for his brilliant century. 


After Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel chose to field first, CSK scored 212/2 in 20 overs. Opener Sanju Samson had a 62-run opening partnership with Ruturaj Gaikwad, the CSK skipper, and a 113-run second wicket partnership with Ayush Mhatre. After the CSK captain Ruturaj was dismissed for 15 runs, Ayush scored 59 off 36 balls (three fours and four sixes) before getting retired out, and Shivam Dube scored 20 not out off 10 balls. 


Sanju scored a 52-ball century, as the right-handed batter scored 115 not out off 56 balls with 15 fours and four sixes. At the end of the innings, Sanju had a 37-run partnership with Shivam for the unbroken third wicket.


In reply, Delhi Capitals were bowled out for 189 runs in 20 overs. Opener Pathum Nissanka (41) and the middle-order batter Tristan Stubbs (60) managed to score 20+ runs in that innings. Among the CSK bowlers, Jamie Overton (4/18) and Anshul Kamboj (3/35) were the standout bowlers. 


Sanju Samson recorded his fourth IPL century.  

  • Sanju became the fourth Indian batter and eighth overall batter to record at least four IPL centuries.

  • After KL Rahul, Sanju became the second cricketer to hit an IPL century for three different IPL teams. Rahul has scored IPL centuries for Kings XI Punjab (two centuries), Lucknow Super Giants (two centuries), and Delhi Capitals (one century). Before this century for CSK, Sanju previously hit centuries for Delhi Daredevils (one century) and Rajasthan Royals (two centuries). 

As a designated wicketkeeper, Sanju Samson recorded his second IPL century.  

  • After Quinton de Kock, Adam Gilchrist, Rishabh Pant, and KL Rahul, Sanju became the fifth designated wicketkeeper to record two centuries in IPL history.
