During the SunRisers Hyderabad vs Rajasthan Royals match in Hyderabad, the 21st game of the IPL 2026, SRH pacer Sakib Hussain also made his IPL debut, just like his new ball bowling partner, Praful Hinge. Just like Praful, Sakib also took four wickets on his IPL debut. While Praful destroyed the RR top orders, Sakib was more effective in the end.
After SRH were sent to bat first, the hosts scored 216/6 in 20 overs. Praful’s four-fer in his first spell forced RR to get down to 9 for 5 wickets. During that early period, the 21-year-old Sakib Hussain also got a wicket by dismissing the dangerous RR opener Yashsavi Jaiswal (1).
IPL Debutant Sakib Hossain: 4-0-24-4
After Donovan Ferreira and Ravindra Jadeja rescued RR with a 118-run partnership for the sixth wicket, Sakib not only broke that crucial partnership but also took two more wickets to ensure a big 57-run win for SRH after bowling the visitors out for 159 runs. While dangerous Ferreira was dismissed after scoring 69 off 44 balls, Sakib ended his IPL debut match with two wickets on successive deliveries, dismissing Jofra Archer (2) and Ravi Bishnoi (0). Sakib ended the game with the bowling figures of 4-0-24-4.
Indian Joint best bowling figures on IPL debut
Sakib recorded the joint best bowling figures record by an Indian on IPL debut. In the IPL 2025 edition, when the Mumbai Indians left-arm pacer Ashwani Kumar made his IPL debut, playing against Kolkata Knight Riders at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, he had the heroic bowling figures of 3-0-24-4. Overall, Sakib recorded the joint fifth-best bowling figures in the history of IPL debuts.
More about Sakib Hussain
Although Sakib made his IPL debut in the 2026 season, it is not the first time he has experienced an IPL franchise dugout. In the 2024 season, he was picked by the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Before his IPL debut, Sakib experienced six first-class matches and 12 T20s, recording 16 and 10 wickets, respectively. He was in the news when he recorded a four-wicket haul during his second T20 match, where the Bihar pacer had the bowling figures of 2-0-20-4 against Gujarat in October 2022.
