Kiran is the five-time national champion (twice in the women's 400m, twice in the women's 4x400m relay, and once in the mixed 4x400m relay).
In June 2024, Kiran clocked 50.92 seconds in the semifinals of the National Inter-State Athletics Championships at Panchkula. It was the second-fastest performance by an Indian in the women’s 400m race history. Only Hima Das has a better record than Kiran, who has the national record of 50.79 seconds.
Kiran has twice completed the women’s 400m race in less than 51 seconds.
How did Kiran Pahal qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics?
The Paris 2024 Olympics qualification mark for the women’s 400m event is 50.95 seconds. During the semifinals of the National Inter-State Athletics Championships at Panchkula in June 2024, Kiran clocked 50.92 seconds to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics directly.
Previously, only an Indian qualified for the women’s 400m race at the Summer Olympics. During the Rio 2016 Olympics, Nirmal Sheoran qualified for the women’s 400m race but was eliminated from Heat 1 after clocking 53.03 seconds and securing the sixth rank in the heat.
