Paris 2024 Olympics: Women’s trap – Rajeshwari Kumari secured India’s quota

On Thursday (August 24), Rajeshwari Kumari finished fifth spot in the women’s trap event at the ISSF World Championship 2023 final in Baku, Azerbaijan. While it is also a qualifying event for the Paris 2024 Olympics, the top four finishers (one from every country) of the 12 Olympic individual shooting events can earn the next Summer Olympics quotas.

As the silver medallist in the women’s trap event at the ISSF World Championship 2023 final, Italian Jessica Rossi, already secured her country’s quota for the Paris 2024 Olympics earlier, fifth positioned Rajeshwari celebrated the event by setting up India’s seventh shooting quota and first women’s trap quota for the upcoming Summer Olympics.

In the final event, Rajeshwari scored 19 out of 30 shots to end in the fifth position. It was also her best result at the ISSF World Championship. Lin Yi Chun of Chinese Taipei won the gold with a score of 40/50, while Jessica Rossi scored 39/50 to earn the silver medal, and German Kathrin Murche got the bronze medal with a 28/40 score.

The confirmed Indian shooting quotas for the Paris 2024 Olympics are as follows (updated till August 24, 2023)

Just like the other Indian shooters, Rajeshwari hasn’t yet secured her place in the Paris 2024 Olympics. Only the National Olympic Committee (NOC) has the power to make the ultimate decisions to select the represented shooters for the next Summer Olympics.
