Men’s Singles
The Men’s Singles side of the tournament was the unpredictable one at this US Open. At the start of the tournament, Novak Djokovic was eliminated in the first round, showing that father Time had finally caught up to him. Carlos Alcaraz was making a comeback, and he reached the semi-finals. It was two young American players that were winning hearts as Ben Shelton and Francis Tiafoe were playing out of this world.
Ben Shelton beat Carlos Alcaraz In the quarter final by 6-7, 6-1, 6-3, 1-6 and 7-6, the best match of the tournament. Alexander Zverev beat Khachanov In the semi-final, 6-3, 7-6 and 7-6. It was Ben Shelton vs Alexander Zverev In the final. And Zverev won in 4 sets by 6-3, 7-6, 5-7 and 6-2. This is the second Grand Slam for Alexander Zverev this year.
Women’s Singles
The women’s singles was the much more predictable side of the tournament this year. This is proved by the fact that the top 4 players in the world reached the semi-finals. It was Coco Gauff from the USA vs Elena Rybakina, and the World number 1 Elena Rybakina won the match by 3-6, 6-4 and 6-4. In the second semi-final, Aryna Sabalenka beat Jessica Pegula by 7-5 and 6-2. Both the USA players lost their semi-final matches. Therefore, in the final, it was number 1 vs. number 2. This was a great final, as it went the distance, and Elena Rybakina won by 6-4, 5-7 and 6-2. She is the world number 1.
Men’s Doubles
The Men’s Doubles side of the tournament was exciting, as none of the Top 4 seeds made it to the final. The final was between the number 5 seeds Neal Skupski and Christian Harrison against the number 8 seeds Tim Putz and Kevin Krawietz. This was a Q2 set match, as the number 5 seeds won by 6-4 and 7-6. It was a close 2-set match.
Women’s Doubles
The women’s Doubles side of the tournament saw two extremes reaching the final. As it was the number 1 seed against a team that was unseeded, and they reached the final. It was Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend who were number 1, who were facing Robin Montgomery and Ashlyn Kruger. This was a much more competitive doubles final, as it went 3 sets. The number 1 seeds made a fantastic comeback after losing the first set by 5-7. They won the next 2 sets by 6-0 and 6-2. An American tennis player wins the Men’s and Women’s Doubles titles.
