The Indian captain Rohit Sharma created a new history in Test cricket as the right-handed batter managed double figures in most consecutive Test innings.

Rohit Sharma put his name in this record book during the fourth day of the 2023 Port of Spain Test against the hosts West Indies. In the morning session of the day, India bowled out the hosts for 255 runs and secured a huge 183-run lead at the end of the first innings battle.

In their second innings, both the Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal fired up the Caribbean bowlers. Captain Rohit continued his good form in this tour by scoring another half-century as he completed the fifty in 35 balls. The right-handed batter scored 57 runs off 44 balls (five fours and three sixes) before losing his wicket.

But Rohit set his new world record in Test cricket when he reached double figures in that innings. It was the 30th consecutive Test innings for the Indian right-handed batter to reach the double-digit figures.

To achieve the record of double figures in the most consecutive Test innings, Rohit surpassed the achieved number of the legendary Sri Lankan cricketer Mahela Jayawardene, who previously recorded it 29 times between 2001 and 2002.
