Kohli was the first player to record double-centuries in four consecutive Test series.

During the 2017 Nagpur and Pune Tests against Sri Lanka, Kohli slammed Test double hundreds in two consecutive innings (213 and 243). It was the seventh time that a batter recorded Test double centuries in two consecutive innings.

Kohli is the only Indian captain to record more than one double century in a Test series. During the Sri Lanka tour of India 2017/18 season, the Indian captain recorded Test double centuries in two consecutive innings by scoring 213 in Nagpur and 243 in Pune. It is the joint record for most Test double centuries by a captain in a Test series.
If we count non-captains, only legendary Australian cricketer Don Bradman has a better record with three double-centuries in a Test series during the Ashes 1930.

While the Indian skipper Kohli hit three Test double centuries in the 2016/17 season, he was the only Test captain to record three double centuries in a season. It is still a record without any further challenge.

With his 254* and 243, Kohli holds the record for the top two highest scores in a Test innings by any Indian captain. Adding 235 runs, Kohli records three out of the top four highest Test innings scores by Indian captains.
Three double centuries in a year twice
In 2016 and 2017, captain Kohli smashed three double centuries each. Kohli is still the only cricketer to record three double centuries for more than one calendar year.
Only legendary Australian cricketer Michael Clarke has a better record in the list of most Test double centuries in a calendar year, who recorded it four times as a captain in 2012.
