In their must-win fixture against New Zealand Women in the league stage of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 on Thursday (October 23), as both teams were fighting for the one remaining spot for the Semi-finals in the tournament, India Women's openers Pratika Rawal and Smriti Mandhana set a record-breaking partnership that guided India Women to a giant match-winning total.


New Zealand Women chose to bowl first after winning the toss at Navi Mumbai. India Women scored 340/3 in 49 overs, and New Zealand had the revised target of 325 runs in 44 overs. In reply, the White Ferns were restricted to 271/8 in 44 overs, as India Women won by 53 runs in the DLS method to secure their Semi-finals spot. 


Indian openers Pratika Rawal and Smriti Mandhana set an unforgettable 212-run partnership for the first wicket in 33.2 overs. Both the Indian openers hit centuries in the game, as Smriti scored 109 off 95 balls and Pratika scored 122 runs off 134 balls. Also, Jemimah Rodrigues played a fiery knock of 76 not out off 55 balls.

  • It was the highest partnership for any team for any wicket against New Zealand Women in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup history. The previous record was a 182-run partnership for the second wicket between the Australia Women batters Meg Lanning and Jess Duffin at Cuttack in 2013.

  • It was the highest partnership for India Women for any wicket in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup history. Their previous record was a 184-run partnership for the fourth wicket between Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur against the West Indies Women at Hamilton in 2022.

  • It was the fourth-highest opening partnership in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup history. 

Women's ODI records 

  • It was the highest Women’s ODI partnership for any wicket against New Zealand Women. The previous record was a 201-run partnership between England Women cricketers Lydia Greenway and Sarah Taylor in the 2012 Lincoln WODI. 

  • It was India Women’s fifth-highest Women’s ODI partnership for any wicket, and fourth-highest Women’s ODI partnership for the opening wicket.
