This remains the best match that Gunther has had in WWE over the 4 years since the change of his name. This triple threat match at WrestleMania 39 was absolutely incredible. Three men at the physical peak of their powers went out there and were hitting each other so fiercely that every blow looked real. The number of chops that Gunther gave and received from both men was a site to witness. Drew Mcintyre and Sheamus hit Claymore Kicks and Brogue kicks but it was not enough. Gunther vs Sami Zayn at WrestleMania 40
This was the 666th day for Gunther as the Intercontinental Champion and it was a WrestleMania match against Sami Zayn. The build was about Gunther being the unstoppable monster and Sami Zayn having no chance. This was the best wrestling match on Night 1 of WrestleMania 40. Gunther dominated the first part of this match as he hit Sami Zayn with chops and clotheslines. Sami Zayn kicked out of everything. This was a 25 minutes match and in the end Sami Zayn hit a Brain buster followed by a Helluva Kick and Sami Zayn won the Intercontinental Championship. Gunther cemented himself as the best Wrestler in the world.
Gunther vs Cody Rhodes at WWE Crown Jewel 2024
This was one of those champion vs champion matches that has started taking place in WWE. In 2024 it was Gunther vs Cody Rhodes. This was one of the best technical wrestling matches to take place in Saudi Arabia. This was a 30 minute match where both men dominated part of the match. Gunther hit Cody Rhodes with chops and he hit Splashes but Cody Rhodes kicked out. Cody Rhodes hit the Cody Cutters, Disaster Kicks and Cross Rhodes but Gunther kicked out. It was looking like it could be anyone but Cody Rhodes beat Gunther. This match proved that Gunther can hang with the big boys.
Gunther vs Sheamus at WWE Clash at the Castle 2022
This was the first great wrestling match that he had as Gunther. This was a 5 star classic that these two men had at Wales with over 60,000 fans attending the events. They had such a great match that the main event that night which was Roman Reigns vs Drew Mcintyre was overshadowed. Gunther and Sheamus showed a level of brutality that was rarely seen in WWE. For 22 minutes they beat the heck out of each other. Sheamus was having the best matches of his life and thus cemented his legendary status. There was no stopping the rise of Gunther and he always shows his gratitude to Sheamus for this match.
Gunther vs John Cena at Saturday’s Night Main Event Washington DC
This was the last match in the WWE career of John Cena. Gunther was given the responsibility of giving John Cena the perfect retirement. Gunther achieved this with perfection. These two men had an incredible match which was 25 minutes long and John Cena got to show all the moves and Gunther was an amazing seller. Gunther hit chops to John Cena and he hit the Powerbomb but John Cena kicked out. It was looking like John Cena would win but Gunther applied the sleeper lock and he didn’t leave it until John Cena tapped out. John Cena got the retirement he deserved. Gunther got the new moniker Career Killer.
