SummerSlam is the second biggest WWE show of the year. It has been going on for almost 40 years. SummerSlam 2025 is the first 2 night Event in its long and storied history. During these 40 years there have been some all time great wrestling Matches that have taken place. However there are also some matches that have been absolute stinkers. SummerSlam 2025 will be held on 2nd and 3rd August in New Jersey.
Let’s look at the Top 5 Worst SummerSlam Matches of all time
1) The Undertaker vs “Undertaker” at SummerSlam 1994
The name of this match looks like a recipe set for disaster. In 1994, The Undertaker was 4 years into his WWE career and he was one of the top guys in WWE. However in 1994 , WWE tried to do something unique. Ted Dibiase hired a fake Undertaker who looked exactly like him and had the same height. It was good at first but then the match happened. It was a car crash as the fake Undertaker was not on the level of the original. This match had pacing issues. It was a silly match and The Undertaker was not associated with silly.
2) Diesel vs King Mabel at SummerSlam 1995
The 2 back 2 back years for SummerSlam in 1994 and 1995 were not great for WWE. This match was the main event of 1995. Diesel was over but he was a wrestler who needed his opponent to be a better wrestler than him so that he could have a Banger match. King Mabel was the opposite of that. He was one of the worst wrestlers of all time. This match was dull and the audience was taken out of it. It was a long match and Diesel tried his best to make it work but King Mabel was not on the level needed. This was a World Championship Match at the second biggest show of the year.
3) The Kay vs Terri Runnels at SummerSlam 2000
This is a match from a SummerSlam that is widely regarded as one of the best of all time. This was a Thong Stinkface Match and the women in WWE were not very valued at that time. It was the Attitude Era and women were not respected in WWE at all. This was a very short match but it showed all the problems that were there during that time. Terri Runnels was a manager and in this match the loser had to stink the backside of the winner. Thankfully women’s wrestling has completely changed since 2015.
4) Sheamus vs Alberto Del Rio at SummerSlam 2012
During the modern era this is a prime example of a big match that should not have been booked. Sheamus was not remotely as popular then as he is now. Alberto Del Rio has never been very popular. He had a great theme song. This match had zero reactions from the crowd. They did not want to see this match. The wrestlers were trying their best but there was no emotion and professional wrestling runs on crowd emotions. Alberto Del Rio is hated by the fans and Sheamus will never get that type of reaction in the future.
5) Booker T vs Batista at SummerSlam 2005
This is at number 5 because this is a bit better than the other 4 but not hh a lot. This was a big match as it had 2 very popular WWE superstars at the time. Booker T was in his prime and so was Batista. The fans were excited for this match but real life happened. Both these men had a real life altercation before this match. That soured their relationship for a bit. The quality of the match was also affected and it was very disjointed and the fans were sensing that they were not having a wrestling match but taking out their anger on one another. This could have been in the Top 5 Best list .
