World Cup 2023 Team of the Tournament

The 2023 World Cup has concluded and it is time to make the best team of the tournament. There have been some truly exceptional performances from all types of players be it young or experienced. The 4 teams that had Qualified for the semi final will have maximum representation in this XI. The batters have been dominant as more than 38 Hundreds have been scored at this World Cup which is one of the most in any World Cup and the fast bowlers have also had an incredible tournament in India.

Let’s look at the World Cup 2023 Team of The Tournament

Openers

Quinton De Kock (South Africa) – Wicket Keeper

The best opening batter in this World Cup has been none other than Quinton De Kock from South Africa. He was playing his last ODI tournament but it is looking like he was in his prime. He has scored 594 runs from the 10 Matches he played. He has made 4 hundreds in this World Cup and that is the second most in a single World Cup. He also set the record of highest individual score by a wicketkeeper-batter in the Cricket World Cup.  He could not contribute much in the semi final and South Africa were knocked out.

Rohit Sharma (India) – Captain

The other opening batter who walks in the XI is Rohit Sharma of India. He has smashed 597 runs in this tournament. He has become the first batter to score over 550 runs in back to back World Cups. He has hit 31 Sixes in this tournament which is the most and he is batting at a strike rate of more than 120. He led the Indian team brilliantly throughout the tournament but India were not able to win the World Cup. He also scored most runs by a captain in a single ODI World Cup.

Middle Order

Virat Kohli (India)

At number 3 is the leading run getter of the tournament and that man is Virat Kohli. He has made 768 in 11 Matches. This is the record for most runs in a single World Cup edition. He has hit 3 hundreds in this World Cup and he reached his 50th ODI hundred and broke the record held by Sachin Tendulkar. He played some of his best cricket in the semi final and final but unfortunately it was not enough for India to win and he was adjudged the Player of the tournament.

Rachin Ravindra (New Zealand)

He is easily the breakout star of the World Cup. This young New Zealand batter was not supposed to play this World Cup and once he got the opportunity he took it with both hands. He has hit 3 centuries which is the most by a New Zealand batter in a single edition in World Cup history. He has scored 578 runs which is the joint most for New Zealand in a World Cup and he could not score much in the semi final. He has a very bright future ahead of him and a fat IPL contract will be on his way when the auction will be held on 19th December. He recorded most runs in ODI World Cup Debut season.

Heinrich Klassen (South Africa)

This destructive South African Batter is not among the highest run getters in the tournament but his impact during the innings and his strike rate in the last 20 overs is the reason he is in this team. He has scored 373 Runs in the 2023 World Cup. Heinrich Klassen has made a brilliant hundred and a number of scores over 50. He is the glue that keeps the middle order of South Africa so dangerous. He played well in the semi final but South Africa were unable to get into the final. He will be a force to be reckoned with In the years to come.

Glenn Maxwell (Australia)

One reason is enough to bring in Glenn Maxwell to the next team of the tournament. He has played the greatest innings in ODI history at this World Cup when he made 201* against Afghanistan where he hit 10 Sixes and won the match single handedly for Australia. He has also made the fastest hundred in World Cup history of 40 balls. He was an important part of the World Cup winning team for Australia as he made 400 runs in this World Cup.

Ravindra Jadeja (India)

There is no better all rounder in this World Cup than Ravindra Jadeja. He has been the glue that has held the Indian team together. He has taken the most wickets by an Indian spinner in a World Cup with 16 wickets. He has also made useful runs with the bat in 3 Matches. The Indian team gets the perfect balance with Ravindra Jadeja in it and he allows the others to express themselves. He was exceptional in this tournament for India.

Lower Order

Marco Jansen (South Africa)

Marco Jansen has been the best left arm fast bowler in this World Cup in terms of impact. He has taken the new ball and he has taken 17 wickets so far in this tournament and he was not able to take more wickets in the semi final. He has also hit a lot of runs and he hits big sixes and can score fast runs lower down the order at a strike rate of more than 120. Marco Jansen will take the new ball in this team as well alongside Jasprit Bumrah.

Adam Zampa (Australia)

The best spinner in this World Cup and also the leading wicket taker in the tournament. Adam Zampa had a bad first few matches but the way he and Australia have bounced back is simply extraordinary. He had taken 23 Wickets in this World Cup and he has troubled all the teams in the tournament. He took 1 more wicket in the knockouts but Australia won the World Cup and he was a very important member. Adam Zampa is an easy choice to have in this XI.

Jasprit Bumrah (India)

The 2 Pacers on this team are easy to pick. The first is Jasprit Bumrah. He has been the best new ball bowler in this World Cup. He had taken 20 Wickets in this tournament and he was in  imperious form throughout the tournament. He does not allow the opponent to score runs against him in the powerplay and in the middle as well as the death overs. He is just one of a kind. Jasprit Bumrah joins this team and he will take the new ball along with Marco Jansen.

Mohammad Shami (India)

To complete this team of the tournament, it has to be Mohammad Shami because no other fast bowler has created the kind of impact he has made in just the little time he has been playing. He has only played in 7 Matches and he has taken 24 Wickets in which he has taken 2 Five Wicket Hauls and 1 Four wicket Haul in the tournament. He took 7 wickets in the semi final and 1 wicket in the Final. He will bowl first change after Jasprit Bumrah and Marco Jansen have done the Early damage.
