7th November 2023 will be a date that cricket fans will remember for a long time and this is a day that no cricket fan will ever forget. On 7th November 2023, something happened in a cricket match that has never happened before and the chances of it happening In for another 100 years are next to impossible. It was Australia vs Afghanistan and this match will be remembered for one man and that man is Glenn Maxwell. Glenn Maxwell has made himself immortal yesterday at Mumbai in this World Cup Match. What he did yesterday will long outlive him.

Glenn Maxwell smashed 201* from 128 balls against Afghanistan to chase down 292 to win. He hit 21 fours and 10 sixes which means 144 runs in boundaries. He had a strike rate of 157 in this innings. To understand the greatness of this knock, Australia were 91 for 7 in this match while chasing and the last recognised batting pair was batting. Glenn Maxwell was given out LBW and luckily he reviewed it and it was missing the stumps and 2 Afghanistan players dropped how catches. After that it was all about one man. What he did yesterday is something that will never be duplicated. In 1983, Kapil Dev hit 175* against Zimbabwe and nobody was able to capture that innings but this generation can proudly say that they have witnessed the 201* by Glenn Maxwell at World Cup 2023

The last 70-80 runs of his astonishingly mind boggling innings was without both legs as he was cramping and he only had two hands and his will to win. He has broken so many records and all will be mentioned. Pat Cummins cannot be forgotten as he was the perfect partner for Glenn Maxwell as he stood by him and he made 12 from 68 balls at a strike rate of 17.68. This was such an extraordinary innings that all cricket fans will feel lucky to be alive to have watched this with their eyes and this will be the defining memory of this World Cup. Ian Smith who was on commentary called the last few overs perfectly and he showed why he is the best commentator in the world. The emotions coming out all the greats of the game and Glenn Maxwell converted all the fans who were supporting Afghanistan earlier in the match to support Australia.

  • He is the first non opener to score a double hundred in ODI Cricket and this is the highest score by a non opener in ODIs getting past the 194 by Charles Coventry of Zimbabwe.


  • This is the quickest double hundred in ODI World Cups at 128 Balls.


  • Glenn Maxwell’s 201* is the highest individual score in an ODI run chase in history.


  • This is also the first ODI double hundred in a run chase in ODI World Cups, the other two by Chris Gayle and Martin Guptill came batting first.


  • The 202* run partnership between Glenn Maxwell and Pat Cummins was the highest ODI partnership for the 8th Wicket.
