Australian cricketer Glenn Maxwell scored another match-winning unforgettable white-ball century during the latest Guwahati T20I against the hosts India. With that hundred, the right-handed batter levelled the record for the most T20I centuries.

Before that Guwahati T20I, which was the third game of the five-match T20I series, Australia were trailing by 2-0, as they couldn’t afford another defeat in the series.

Thanks to the opener Ruturaj Gaikwad 123 not out, the highest T20I score against Australia, India scored 222/3 in 20 overs. Chasing down the massive target, the Aussies were struggling at 134/5 in 13.3 overs.

However, Glenn Maxwell wasn’t ready to give up anyway. He set up the match-winning 91-run partnership for the unbroken sixth wicket with the skipper Matthew Wade (28*) and dramatically finished the game on the final ball.

In the final over of the match, Australia needed 21 runs to win, where Prasidh Krishna was the defending bowler. Earlier, in the 19th over of the innings, Matthew Wade’s powerful batting helped the visitors to score 22 runs against the left-arm spinner Axar Patel.

In the final over of the match, Wade hit a four on the first ball, while Maxwell smashed four, six, four, and four, respectively, to settle a remarkable victory for the Aussies. On the final ball of the match, Australia required two runs to win, but Maxwell finished the game with a boundary.

On the fifth ball of the final over of the match, Maxwell completed his fourth T20I century in 47 balls. The right-handed batter scored 104 not out in 48 balls with the help of eight fours and eight sixes. Here are some crucial stats of Maxwell’s centurion innings.

  • Maxwell became the first cricketer to record three T20I centuries at chasing.

  • With the 47-ball hundred, Maxwell equaled the record for the fastest T20I hundred by an Australian cricketer. Earlier, Australian cricketers Aaron Finch (vs England at Southampton in 2013) and Josh Inglis (vs India at Visakhapatnam in 2023) recorded 47-ball centuries.

  • With four T20I centuries, Maxwell equaled the record for most T20I centuries. Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma was the first batter to record four T20I hundreds.
