After talking about three of the greats of Indian sport now it’s time to talk about one of the greatest of all time when it comes to boxing and one that has inspired so many young girls across the nation to take up boxing. I am talking about none other than the legend herself Mary Kom. She is the greatest boxer India has ever seen and one of the best of all time. She has been doing this for 20 years. Now that she is a MP and boxing is In her past we can celebrate her career.

Before we start the list of her greatest performances it is important to tell the readers that Mary Kom has won 6 Gold Medals at the Boxing World Championship which is more than any boxer in history and she is an Olympic Medalist and Commonwealth Games and Asian Games Medalist. With that being said let’s get to the list.


2008 Olympic Bronze Medal

The best performance of her career is the bronze Medal that she got in the 2008 Olympics and that she cherishes the most in her career. She went in as a favorite and she showed why she was so great. She won the Quarter Final which assured her of a medal but in the semi final she lost a close match but that Bronze Medal inspired so many female boxers like Nikhat Zareen who now are making India proud in that weight category.


2002 World Boxing Championship Gold Medal


This was the first Gold Medal at the World Championship for Mary Kom and this was 20 years ago when she had started and she won the Gold Medal for India. She was in the 45 Kg Category event of this competition and she steamrolled through the best boxers in the world and in the final she beat Jang Song ae and she created history for India and she became a star.


2010 World Boxing Championship Gold Medal


This was the 5th Gold Medal for Mary Kom at the World Boxing Championship and this time she was contesting in the 48 Kg category which was 3 Kg more than the earlier weight class she competed in but it made absolutely no difference in the outcome as she again won Gold. In the final of the tournament she beat Steluta Duta of Romania to once again carry the Indian flag the highest and hear the national anthem.


2018 World Boxing Championship Gold Medal


Mary Kom had been competing in boxing for over 16 years at this point and so many young boxers came up looking up to her and this was held in New Delhi and she once again beat everyone in the competition 5-0 In every round and in the final bout she beat Hanna Okhota of Ukraine by 5-0 by unanimous decision and won her 6th World Championship Gold Medal in the process and it would take something special to beat her record.


2018 Commonwealth Games Gold Medal


In this Commonwealth Games Nikhat Zareen won the Gold Medal for India In the same weight category that in 2018 the all time great Mary Kom won the Gold Medal. Mary Kom was in her late 30s but still she fought like a lion in all the rounds and won all bouts by 5-0 again and in the final she beat Krishna O’Hara of Northern Ireland by 5-0 to win her first Commonwealth Games Gold Medal. Mary Kom is truly magnificent.


2014 Asian Games Gold Medal


The last performance we will talk about in this article is the 2014 Asian Games Gold Medal which she won in the 51 Kg category where she beat the best of Asia and some of the best in the world as well. Mary Kom in the final beat the Kazakhstan boxer to win her first Asian Games Gold Medal. She is a once in a lifetime athlete who has made India proud more Times than anyone can count.
