Decisions taken in the BCCI Review Meeting on 1st January 2023

The start to the new year for Indian cricket was a big one as one of the most important meetings in Indian cricket in recent years was held yesterday. And this meeting was held by BCCI secretary Jay Shah in Mumbai and it was attended by Team India captain Rohit Sharma, Head Coach Rahul Dravid, NCA Head VVS Laxman and also the former Chief Selector Chetan Sharma.

In this meeting a few big decisions were made and those decisions will impact Indian cricket in the years to come. It finally looks like the BCCI has had enough and they want to take Indian cricket forward and win ICC trophies for India as it has been 10 years and 2 big time ICC events are to be held this year and India will look to win both of them. So, let’s talk about those decisions.

20 Players to be shortlisted for 2023 Indian Team for 2023 ODI World Cup

This was one of the best and most important decisions that was taken in the meeting yesterday and now not every player will be given a chance to play and only a select few group of 20 players will be rotated throughout the year and then amongst those players 15 will be selected. These 20 players will get a long run and the selectors will be able to pick the best possible team for the World Cup in India which is the pinnacle of cricket.

Yo-Yo Test and Dexa Scans are back

The much famous Yo Yo Test is back after it was introduced during the Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri era and this test was crucial to checking the fitness levels of all the players and a certain limit was set and the players who were not able to cross that limit were not selected in the team and looking at the series of injuries this is a good decision. And Dexa Scans are tests where the bone density can be measured and these tests can also help assess details about bone fractures and bone breaks.

Emerging Players will have to play substantial domestic season

This is a great decision that has been taken because in the past 5-6 years players who only performed in the IPL were given preference and the ones who were great in season after season were ignored so this new decision will make the domestic season more important and more young players will prioritize domestic cricket. Once a player is hardened with domestic cricket then only he will be able to play for India.

More importance to Indian Cricket Team

This was the biggest issue that was in Indian cricket since the IPL has been around because the players want to be fit for the IPL and thus sacrifice Indian cricket and that is not a good thing. The IPL is great but it should not come in between the nation and the BCCI has decided that along with the NCA it will talk to the franchises about workload management for the players who will play most matches this year. Hopefully this motivates more players to play more for India.
