Neeraj Chopra in 2025 Diamond League Final

The 2022 Diamond League Final champion Neeraj Chopra finished in second position in the men’s javelin throw event of the 2025 Diamond League Final, as the German Julian Weber won the title for the first time.

Julian Weber outclassed Neeraj Chopra

The world ranked 2, Julian Weber, completely dominated the final Diamond League event of the season, while his first throw reached 91.37m, his second throw was the season best that reached 91.51m to become the title-winning distance of the night. His other attempts of the night were 83.66m, 86.45m, 88.66m, and one foul.

On the other hand, the no. 1-ranked Indian star Neeraj Chopra, the Tokyo Olympic gold medalist, finished the Diamond League Final runner-up for the third straight season. Neeraj started with a throw of 84.35m, while his next attempt managed 82.00m. While his next three attempts were foul, his last throw reached the distance of 85.01m to secure second place, as Keshorn Walcott from Trinidad & Tobago closely finished in the third position with his best throw of the night at 84.95m.

The timing was not so good today: Neeraj Chopra

While Chopra breached the 90m mark this year, he was disappointed with his timing and run-up in the latest Diamond League Final.

Chopra told after the event, “The timing was not so good today (Thursday), run-up was not so good. There is something I didn’t find today, but I still have three weeks for the World Championships, and I will try my best.”

However, Chopra was happy with some of his performances on the night, including his second-place securing throw, as the Indian star is eyeing the World Athletics Championships 2025, which will be organised in mid-September.

Chopra added, “This was not too bad. But we are getting very close to the World Championships, so I still need to throw a little bit farther. There were a few things that went well, but still, there were things which did not go that well. In the last attempt, I still managed to throw 85. But I am very happy for Julian (Weber), he managed to throw really far, and to throw 91m was really good. We will see in three weeks. I still need to train a little bit. In this sport, we do not know. It depends on the day.”
