World Athletics Championships 2023: Indians Jeswin Aldrin And Parul Chaudhary Reach Finals

India had some celebration moments at the World Athletics Championships 2023 in Budapest after Jeswin Aldrin entered the men’s long jump Final, and Parul Chaudhary reached the women's 3000m steeplechase Final on 23rd August.

Finally, India had some celebration moments at the World Athletics Championships 2023 in Budapest (Hungary) after Jeswin Aldrin entered the men’s long jump Final, and Parul Chaudhary reached the women's 3000m steeplechase Final on the fifth day (August 23).


World Athletics Championships 2023: Men’s Long Jump – Jeswin Aldrin reached the Final as the last man

In the men’s long jump event, the automatic qualifying mark for the Final was 8.15 metres. Including that, the top 12 performers in the two group qualification rounds would book for the Final spot.

The 21-year-old Indian athlete Jeswin Aldrin managed the 12th or last spot to advance to the Final of the men’s long jump event. He successfully managed to jump the 8.00 metres mark during his first attempt in the Group B event.

Jamaican Wayne Pinnock set a new world lead with an 8.54m mark in the men’s long jump event. Chinese athlete Wang Jianan managed second place with his season-best performance of 8.34m. Greek long jumper Miltiadis Tentoglou was in the third spot with an 8.25m jump, while another Jamaican Carey McLeod        (8.19m) was the only other long jumper to cross the 8.15m mark.

Another Indian, the 24-year-old Murali Sreeshankar failed to secure his place for the Final of the men’s long jump event. His 7.74m distance only secured the 22nd place in the qualification event.

The Final has been scheduled for August 24.

World Athletics Championships 2023: Women's 3000m Steeplechase – Parul Chaudhary qualified for the Final

In a three-heat battle of women's 3000m steeplechase, the 28-year-old Parul Chaudhary managed the fifth spot in Heat 2 with her personal best of 9:24.29s.

The 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medalist Jackline Chepkoech was the fastest in the heats (9:16.41s).

The Final of the women's 3000m steeplechase has been scheduled for August 27.
