Gulveer Singh created Commonwealth Games history for India with a medal in the men’s 10,000m event, where he won silver in Glasgow 2026.
On Tuesday (28th July), the men’s 10,000m event final was organized at the CWG 2026. Australian Ky Robinson (27:48.93) won the gold medal, while Gulveer Singh (27:49.78) secured second place for the silver medal, creating history for India, as it was India’s first medal in the men’s 10,000m event. David Mullarkey of the Isle of Man won the bronze medal after finishing the race at 27:50.28.
Gulveer Singh will not leave the Glasgow 2026 event yet, as he will also participate in the men’s 5,000m event final, scheduled on 1st August.
Who is Gulveer Singh?
Born into a farming family in Sirsa village, Aligarh district, Uttar Pradesh, in 1998, Gulveer Singh started running to join the Indian Army. In 2018, he joined the Indian Army through the sports quota as he rose to Junior Commissioned Officer from the Grenadiers.
Gulveer Singh holds the national records in the men’s 3,000m, 5,000m, and 10,000m events. Apart from winning a bronze medal in the Asian Games 2022 (men’s 10,000m), Gulveer won two gold medals in the Asian Athletics Championships 2025 (men’s 5,000m and 10,000m) and a bronze medal in the Asian Athletics Championships 2023 (men’s 5,000m).
