Indian weightlifters are ready to challenge in the Commonwealth Games 2026, as it is one of the most important medal segments for the nation, especially in the truncated CWG event in Glasgow, Scotland. While the CWG 2026 is running from 23 July to 2 August, the weightlifting events will run between 26 July and 30 July.
India has finally sent a total of 11 weightlifters to the CWG 2026, including four men and seven women. However, Dilbag Singh has withdrawn his spot from the CWG 2026, as India is missing their 12th and fifth male weightlifters.
In the CWG 2026, Indian men will compete in the 60 kg, 65 kg, 79 kg, and +110 kg events. Meanwhile, the Indian women will compete in the 48 kg, 53 kg, 58 kg, 69 kg, 77 kg, 86 kg, and +86 kg events.
Indian Weightlifting history in the Commonwealth Games
India has a rich history in weightlifting events in the CWG. In the CWG weightlifting events, Indians are strongly standing in the second position with 133 medals (46 golds, 51 silvers, and 36 bronzes, including one silver and one bronze in powerlifting from 2002 to 2014 before it became a different medal event).
After shooting (135 medals), which is not present in the CWG 2026, weightlifting is India’s most successful CWG event. Meanwhile, weightlifting is just behind shooting (63 golds) and wrestling (49 golds) in the list of India’s most golds in CWG events. Just like shooting, wrestling is also not present in Glasgow 2026.
