Indian Womens Hockey Team Preview for Commonwealth Games 2022

In the list of teams from India in these Commonwealth Games we will now talk about the Indian Women’s Hockey team which will look to win a medal at these Commonwealth Games and shed away some of the sadness that must have been there since the Tokyo Olympics last year. The Indian Women’s Hockey team is one of the best teams in this competition and if they play at their best they should win a medal and maybe even Gold.

Before we talk about the players who will be a part of this team, we have to talk about how this team even by finishing 4th in the Olympics last year won crores of fans and all of us will be cheering them on with full fervor to get a Gold Medal this time. So, let’s do a preview of the team.

Savita Punia – Captain

The captain of this team and also the Goalkeeper of our team and she has been playing for 234 matches for India and she will look to give her best and be the best goalkeeper of this tournament and not concede many goals.

Rajanj Etimarpu – Goalkeeper

She is the stand in keeper whenever Savita dies not play matches and she has played 96 Matches for India and she will be cheering on from the dugout and will look to do her best for India whenever she gets the chance in this tournament.

Deep Grace Ekka – Defender

One of the most experienced defenders in the world and the backbone of our defense is Deep Grace Ekka and she has played 234 Matches for India and she will look to bring all that experience into this tournament to win a medal for her nation and not allow the opposition to score goals.

Gurjit Kaur – Defender

She is a name that became a household name for India after the Olympics last year and she scores a lot of goals from the penalty corners as well as stop the other teams from scoring goals and she will look to do the exact same thing at these Games too.

Nikki Pradhan – Defender

Another important defender in the team and a player from Jharkhand and she is someone who loves to attack the opposite team and do anything to not let the other team get near the goalkeeper. She has played for 133 matches and she will need to bring all that experience into play.

Usha- Defender

In the long line of defenders of the Indian team Usha is another one but she might not get to play much at these Games so she will be cheering on from the sidelines and whenever she is given the chance she will look to make a statement for India.

Nisha- Midfielder

Now we come into the midfielders and the first name is Nisha and she is someone who has not played a lot for India and I think she will be among the ones who will have to sit out in the opening matches and she will want to contribute at some stage in the tournament.

Sushila Chanu – Midfielder

The most experienced midfielder of the Indian team and she will be the one who will be the attacking midfielder and she will provide the balls then the forwards will use to score goals for India. She has played 214 matches for India and she will need to use all that experience.

Monika Malik – Midfielder

Yet another highly experienced midfielder of the Indian team and someone who is still going and has already played 184 matches for India and she is a playmaker who gets out of tricky corners easily and she will look to do just that here also.

Neha Goyal – Midfielder

She is someone who is lightning fast in the field and is known for weaving past opponents with ease and the ability to find gaps which is so hard to do and India will need her to find more gaps in the Commonwealth Games.

Jyoti- Midfielder

She is one of those midfielders who will not get to play much at these Games but she will be cheering India from the touchline and will be raring to go whenever she gets the opportunity.

Navjot Kaur – Midfielder

Navjot Kaur is a household name in India after the Olympics last year when she had an important role in India finishing 4th last year and she is a goalscorer as a midfielder and she will be looking to do the exact same thing that she has done in 202 matches for India.

Salima Tete- Midfielder

The last of the midfielders for India and she is so young still and only 20 years old so she has more than a decade of playing in her and she has played 59 Matches till now and she will need to bring all that speed and skills to play at these Games.

Vandana Katariya – Forward

The player who has earned the most amount of respect after the Tokyo Olympics last year and she is a goal scoring machine for India and she has played 270 matches for India and will be looking to score lots of goals in these Commonwealth Games.

Lalremsiami – Forward

She is a young forward in the Indian team and she is lightning quick and can get past her opponents with ease and score lots of goals. She is only 22 years old and has already played 92 matches for India.

Navneet Kaur – Forward

She is known for one touch shots and scoring quick goals and taking the opponents by surprise and she has been doing that for 113 Matches and she will look to do this to her opponent at the Commonwealth Games as well.

Sharmila Devi – Forward

She made her debut 2 years ago and is still only 20 years old and she will be one of the bright stars to look out for in this Commonwealth Games and will be looking to score goals for India.

Sangita Kumari – Forward

She is also a forward but she might not get to play the matches at these Commonwealth Games so she will be cheering on from the dugout and will be looking to make an impact when she is given the chance.

Medal Chances

This team is very strong and has a great chance at winning a medal at these Commonwealth Games and if they play to their full potential they might be able to win the Gold Medal as well. All of India will be cheering for them .
