Harmanpreet Kaur Captaincy Record

Harmanpreet Kaur has closed a historic chapter in Indian women’s cricket by resigning as captain of women’s cricket team in all three formats.

Harmanpreet had become one of the most experienced skippers in international cricket in her almost decade-long stint as captain. Her record across Tests, ODIs and T20Is speaks volumes about the longevity and consistency of her tenure, while a few major milestones came along during her time at the helm.

A Fine Record in All Formats

Harmanpreet signed off as captain with a good record across all three formats.

She captained India in five Test matches, winning four and losing one. Her captaincy has the best success rate in this format with 80% of games being won.

Her ODI captaincy record saw her captain India in 51 matches, winning 30 and losing 19 with one tie and one no-result. She had a winning percentage of 58.82%.

Harmanpreet’s captaincy in T20Is reached new heights. She captained India in 155 games, winning 93 and losing 57 with five no-results. Her 60.60% win percentage came over a phenomenal period of more than 150 international T20Is as a captain

Leading India to Their 1st ODI World Cup Title

One of the defining moments of Harmanpreet’s captaincy was when she led India to their maiden senior Women’s ODI World Cup title on home soil in 2025.

The win put her in an elite company of Indian senior cricket captains to have won a World Cup, joining Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni.

The title was a landmark moment for Indian women’s cricket and a moment that saw Harmanpreet become captain at the center of one of the most significant achievements in the team’s history.

2023 and 2026 Asian Games gold medals

Harmanpreet has also led India to gold medals in women’s cricket at the Asian Games in 2022 and 2026.

India’s gold medal at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou was the country’s first ever appearance in the women’s cricket competition at the event. Harmanpreet led India to two gold medals at the Asian Games as the nation successfully defended the title after four years.

Four Asia Cups

Harmanpreet’s captaincy also coincided with India’s dominance in the Women’s Asia Cup.

She led India to the tournament title in 2012, 2016, 2022 and 2026, winning four Asia Cup titles as captain.

These wins spanned different phases of her leadership career and highlighted India’s consistent performance in the regional contest.

A T20I Captain Like No Other

The T20I record of Harmanpreet’s captaincy is also perhaps the most shocking stat.

She also became the first cricketer in the history of international cricket (men’s and women’s) to captain a team in more than 150 T20Is.

Her tenure as India’s T20I captain finally ended at 155 matches, highlighting the incredible longevity of her leadership in the shortest format.

While she was in charge, women’s T20 cricket grew significantly all over the world, with international cricket and franchise leagues becoming more and more prominent.

Commonwealth Games Silver Medal

Another big achievement came in the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Under the captaincy of Harmanpreet, India reached the final in women's cricket and clinched silver. The tournament was the first time women’s T20 cricket had featured in the Commonwealth Games, giving the team another chance to compete on a major multi-sport stage.

The End of an Era

Harmanpreet Kaur leaves behind a record that is a blend of longevity, major tournament success and landmark achievements in her stint as captain.

Her captaincy has been synonymous with some of the biggest moments in Indian women’s cricket, from leading India in over 200 international matches across formats to winning the country’s first senior Women’s ODI World Cup, two Asian Games gold medals and four Asia Cup titles.

The Indian women’s team will now enter a new leadership era with her captaincy coming to an end. But the numbers and the milestones she achieved while in office will be an important part of India cricketing history.
