Ibrahim Zadran scored 177 runs: Highest score in ICC Champions Trophy
Afghanistan, who suffered a 107-run defeat in their tournament opener against South Africa, were struggling in the first powerplay, where they scored 39/3. However, opener Ibrahim Zadran was unshakable by the English bowlers, while the middle-order batters provided strong support. The 23-year-old Zadran recorded his sixth ODI century in 106 balls and continued his innings to the big score to ensure a strong challenging total for the Afghans.
While the captain Hashmatullah Shahidi (40), Azmatullah Omarzai (41), and Mohammad Nabi (40) scored crucial 40s, Zadran, who had two-century partnerships with Shahidi and Nabi, ultimately scored 177 off 146 balls with 12 fours and six sixes before losing his wickets in the last over. It is the new highest score record in ICC Champions Trophy history. The previous record was English opener Ben Duckett’s 165 against Australia at Lahore in the ongoing edition.
