Hosts India have secured the three-match ODI series against West Indies after stunningly winning the second ODI with a dominant chase of a 406-run target at Guwahati, which has helped the Men in Blue to take a 2-0 lead in the series.
After India sent the West Indies to bat first, the Caribbean team managed a massive first innings total of 405/7 in 50 overs, thanks to three centuries from the top four batters. Opener John Campbell scored 101 off 68 balls with nine fours and five sixes, while captain Shai Hope scored 104 off 94 balls with eight fours and three sixes, and Amir Jangoo scored 114 off 77 balls with 13 fours and three sixes.
In reply, the Indian openers Rohit Sharma and the skipper Shubman Gill had an incredible 255-run partnership for the first wicket in just 26.2 overs, which made the record-breaking target for the nation very smooth. While Rohit scored 101 off 75 balls with 10 fours and six sixes, captain Gill won the Player of the Match award for his unforgettable knock of 223 not out off just 133 balls with 26 fours and eight sixes. Their batting power guided India to the target in just 43.3 overs, while the hosts lost only two wickets.
Earlier, in the ODI series opener, India beat West Indies by eight wickets after successfully chasing the 296-run target in just 41.4 overs at Thiruvananthapuram.

It was the fastest ODI double century. The previous record was a 126-ball double hundred by Ishan Kishan from India against Bangladesh during the 2022 Chattogram ODI.
After the Indian legend Rohit Sharma, who holds the record for most ODI double-centuries by recording it three times, Gill became the second cricketer to record the ODI double-century multiple times. While it was his second ODI double century, he recorded it for the first time in 2023 against New Zealand at Hyderabad, where the right-handed batter scored 208 runs.

It was the second-highest successful ODI chase. The record is the chase of the 435-run target by South Africa (438/9 in 49.5 overs) against Australia at Johannesburg in 2006.
It was the third-highest ODI total in the second innings. While South Africa’s successful chase of 438/9 is on top, Sri Lanka’s 411/8 (50 overs) vs India in the 2009 Rajkot ODI is in the second position, where Sri Lanka were chasing the 415-run target.
