The cricketing World is always in one controversy or the other and when it looks like there will be a time without any major problems then comes a story like this that creates a divide in the cricketing World like fewer things have in the recent past. This one comes recently as Cricket Australia has announced that it will not play the ODI Series vs Afghanistan which would have given a lot of revenue to Afghanistan cricket because of the Taliban’s restrictions of Women’s cricket and not allowing Women’s cricket in Afghanistan.

Before the question of whether this decision was right or wrong, it is important to look at both sides of this story because a story like this has Two completely opposite points of view and it is necessary to talk about both of them. This is a sensitive issue and so all the opinion makers are being careful before giving their opinions on social media as well. So, let’s look into both points of view.

In favor of this decision

First let’s talk about the point of view that I'd be in favor of this decision taken by Cricket Australia. The people who are in support of this decision say that this will cause some impact as this series would have given Afghanistan cricket lots of money and whenever there is a big loss of money then the organization wakes up and starts acting. And most importantly the decision by Taliban to not allow any women’s cricket in Afghanistan had to be opposed by everyone as it is not right and Cricket Australia has started this movement. Women’s rights are non negotiable and if Cricket Australia looks the villain in this then they are ready for that and they would want other cricket boards to take the same stance.

Not in favor of this decision

Then there is the opposing point of view who are opposing this decision not because they are against women playing cricket but for other reasons. Rashid Khan who is the most famous Afghanistan cricketer said that sports and politics should not be mixed and that he will seriously consider his participation in the BBL which is held in Australia. Other players from Afghanistan have withdrawn from the BBL. Other people are saying that Cricket Australia is making Afghanistan a soft target and they are not addressing the racial abuses that happen at their cricket stadiums.

This is the right decision taken by Cricket Australia because women’s rights and the right of women being able to play cricket comes first before anything else and Cricket Australia has taken a brave stance and hopefully they stick to it and are ready for the repercussions. And the people who say about the racial abuses in Australia, two wrongs do not make a right and this series not being held will hurt Taliban and hopefully they allow women’s cricket.
