During the first Semi-final at the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023, while the Indian captain Rohit Sharma set up another powerful start for the Indian team, he also set up a record for most sixes by a batter in a single edition of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup.
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat first against New Zealand in the first Semi-final of the tournament at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill built up another big first-wicket partnership in the first powerplay. Rohit once again had no mercy for the opponent bowlers, and Shubman provided solid support from the other end.
While India scored 70 runs in eight overs, Rohit scored 47 runs with the help of four fours and four sixes. In the ninth over of the match, he was caught out as the Black Caps skipper Kane Williamson took a brilliant catch. But before that dismissal, Rohit scored 47 off 29 balls.

His third six of the match set up a new World Cup record for most sixes in a single edition of the ODI World Cup. Previously, the legendary Caribbean batter Chris Gayle had the record for most sixes in a single Men's Cricket World Cup edition with 26 sixes during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.
Meanwhile, after the first Semi-final at the CWC 2023, Rohit has recorded 28 sixes in this tournament edition. Rohit Sharma also holds the record of most odi sixes in a calendar year as well.

Rohit Sharma: Most ODI World Cup sixes (Check List 2)
That over-boundary was also Rohit's 50th six in his ODI World Cup career. With that hit, Rohit broke another all-time ODI World Cup record.
Caribbean legend Chris Gayle previously held the record for most sixes in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup with 49 sixes. Rohit now holds this record with 51 ODI World Cup over-boundaries.
