MEX vs POL Team News

Mexico are hoping to positively change their recent long-time World Cup fate by finally moving up from the Round of 16. In CONCACAF, they recently performed very consistently as they reached the finals of Gold Cup 2019 (champions), 2019/20 Nations League (runners-up) and Gold Cup 2021 (runners-up).

However, since last June, El Tri have failed to maintain that consistency. From June to the final warm-up game ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2022, the green shirts lost four times and won thrice out of nine total games (drew twice).

On the other hand, Robert Lewandowski-led Poland are ready to put a special mark on this World Cup and bring back their golden generation memory. The two-time World Cup semi-finalists (1974 and 1982) haven’t played a World Cup knockout stage game after 1986. The Eagles are desperate to end this long wait in this competition.

While the Poland national football team is now in a fresh regrowth phase, they have experienced continuous ups and downs in recent years. They are still dependent on legendary footballer Robert Lewandowski, the all-time most capped and most goal-scorer for this country. However, the country is developing the other players, who can play a huge impact in this World Cup.

Previous Mexico vs Poland matches were majorly very tight contests. It is going to be their second FIFA World Cup meeting after their first such encounter in the 1978 edition during the First Round, Group Stage, where Poland recorded a 3-1 win.

While Jesús Corona withdrew his name from the squad just a few days before the final squad announcement due to injury, Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui recently opened up with concern about Raúl Jiménez’s present groin injury issue. However, the 31-year-old played the second half of the last warm-up game against Sweden.

In the goalkeeping position, Kamil Grabara has replaced the injured Bartlomiej Dragowski (ankle injury).
