The Women’s football tournament of the Asian Games 2023 will consist of 16 teams battling out for the ultimate prize. It will mark the ninth edition of the competition after the women’s football division was opened in 1990. China were the host back then as well with this being the third time in history. Unlike the men’s football tournament, the women’s competition is not age-restricted with senior teams available to take part. Japan were the gold medalists in the last Asian Games held in Jakarta by beating China in the final.
The teams are divided into five groups with Groups A and B having three teams each while Groups D and E have four. Group C also had three teams at the time of the draw but Cambodia decided to withdraw from the competition. As a case, the remaining teams, North Korea and Singapore will play each other twice to decide the winner from that group. The top five group winners along with three best group runner ups will qualify for the Knockout stage.
