Bruno Fernandes Transfer News

A new report from ESPN has confirmed that Manchester United are set to hold discussions with club captain Bruno Fernandes about his future before the upcoming World Cup. The club’s hierarchy are expected to make it clear that they want the midfielder to remain at Old Trafford for at least another season, underlining his importance to the team and their plans moving forward. Although Manchester United have been disappointing this season, Bruno Fernandes has been impressive individually, especially if you look at his Premier League stats this season. The Portuguese midfielder has managed to score 5 and set up another 9 in just 19 Premier League appearances.

Bruno Fernandes Transfer News: Manchester United was close to leaving the Last Summer

Bruno Fernandes attracted strong interest from Al Hilal last summer and is expected to draw more attention again at the end of the season. While Manchester United are willing to let their captain decide his own future, their preference is for him to stay, especially with another transitional summer ahead and a new permanent manager set to replace Ruben Amorim.

Fernandes, now 31, is under contract until 2027, with an option for an extra year that could keep him at the club until June 2028. Internally, there was surprise at comments he made in a December interview suggesting United wanted him to leave last Summer, remarks that appeared to contradict what he had said in an interview two months earlier.

United are keen to get clarity on Fernandes’ plans before the FIFA World Cup, and will ask him and his representatives for an indication of where he sees his future. However, Fernandes has stated that he does not intend to make a final decision until after the tournament, even as the club pushes to settle its transfer plans in advance.

What next for Bruno Fernandes and Manchester United?

Manchester United will face Arsenal away at the Emirates this Premier League weekend. Bruno Fernandes has been shifted back to his old preferred No. 10 position under new Manchester United manager Michael Carrick, and will be hoping to inspire his team to a huge victory against Mikel Arteta's side.
