DR Congo vs Jamaica Match Preview
Highest ranked team in this pathway of the playoffs and overall, DR Congo had an extraordinary run in their regional qualifiers ultimately grabbing the sole spot for the playoff offered to CAF. After finishing second in their group, beaten by Senegal for the automatic spot by just two points, the Leopards stunned two African giants in the CAF Playoffs on their way here. Edging Cameroon 1-0 with a last minute winner and defeating a talented Nigerian team on penalties, with captain Chancel Mbemba having a hand in both, DR Congo showed that they will be a deserved team to be in the 2026 World Cup if they make it through the FIFA inter-confederation playoffs. They are now just a step away from fulfilling their dream of making only their second appearance in their history in the showpiece event and the first time since 1974, when they competed as Zaire. Sebastian Desabre's team will face Jamaica in the final held at Zapopan with the favourites tag of progressing to the main stage, being the highest ranked side in this playoff. Confidence is oozing through their veins now as they have lost just twice in last 11 games, that too narrowly to Senegal in the World Cup qualifiers and to Algeria in the Round of 16 stage of the AFCON. Other than their esteemed solidity, the side is also looking to make some progress in the attack with their star forward, Yoane Wissa back from his long injury and scoring in the first match back since September 2025 in the 2-0 win over Bermuda in the preparation friendly last week.
Jamaica too had to settle for a playoff spot after failing to get the automatic spot to the 2026 World Cup following a shock goalless draw against Curacao, who took the first place in the group instead to make a fairytale debut in the competition. The result also put an end to Steve McClaren's tenure with the side with Rudolph Speid taking charge but only on an interim basis. The Reggae Boyz had to go through the tricky FIFA Inter-confederation playoffs and they got a taste of it in the semifinal itself. Despite ranking 80 places above their opposition, they could only edge out New Caledonia by a free-kick that was parried onto the path of Wrexham's striker Bailey Cadamarteri who made no mistake in converting the rebound in the 18th minute. That was the only goal of the game as the OFC side gave their CONCACAF heavyweights a run for their money and the result could have been different if the 150th ranked nation made the most of their opportunities. Jamaica had their chances to kill the game off but their performance was rather underwhelming when everyone expected to be dominant against, all due respect, a minnow. That will put a concern on Speid's side as it is their turn to be underdog as they face a solid unit in DR Congo with a win away from reaching their first World Cup since 1998. However, DR Congo had the favourites tag in this pathway regardless of Jamaica's performance in the semifinal. So, it is left to see whether the CONCACAF nation overcomes their struggles and relishes the challenge, create a miracle or crumble once again under pressure.
DR Congo vs Jamaica Match Prediction
Prediction: DR Congo 2-0 Jamaica
It looks too tough a test for Jamaica, ranked 70th in the world, to overcome a side that is not only placed 48th in the world but also in one of the finest forms of their life. The expectation that the advantage of playing in a CONCACAF nation will play a steady role for the Reggae Boyz was extinguished in the semifinal stage itself by New Caledonia of all sides. In any case, DR Congo seem to be the outright favourites to book a spot at the World Cup and only a catastrophic failure by the side could prevent them fulfilling their dream. Their rise has been too hard to ignore and with more attacking impetus in the squad now, they look a far more dangerous side to compete against and is one of the factors which will put them in the finals.
