By qualifying for the FIFA World Cup 2026, Curacao has made tournament history, as it is the smallest nation ever, by both population and area, to qualify for the competition. It is also the first non-sovereign national team from the Americas to qualify for the FIFA World Cup.

In the second round, the Blue Wave were in Group C along with Barbados, Aruba, Saint Lucia, and Haiti. Curacao won all those matches, mostly dominated, and comfortably advanced to the third round.
In the third round, they were in Group B along with Trinidad and Tobago, Bermuda, and Jamaica. With three wins and three draws in the third round, the Blue Wave finished top of Group B to book their historic FIFA World Cup tickets.
