Defending champions Argentina, who already secured the Group J top position in the points table before their last game of the group stage, beat the tournament debutant Jordan by 3-1. Substitute captain Lionel Messi scored from a direct free-kick in the 80th minute to stretch his World Cup goal-scoring record to 19 goals, three more than the second-placed Kylian Mbappe (France) and Miroslav Klose (Germany), as both have scored 16 goals in the tournament history.
