Liverpool vs Ipswich - Alexander Isak Breaks Two Records

Alexander Isak produced a sensational start to Liverpool’s Premier League clash against Ipswich Town, scoring twice inside the opening nine minutes to inspire Andoni Iraola’s side to a 2-0 victory at Portman Road. The Swedish striker struck in the sixth and ninth minutes, with both goals assisted by Cody Gakpo, giving Liverpool their first Premier League win under Iraola.

The victory also extended Liverpool’s unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign, with the Reds now having five points from their opening three matches after two draws and one win. More importantly, Isak’s explosive brace saw him break two remarkable records.

Alexander Isak’s Brace Was Liverpool’s Fastest in 16 Years

Isak needed just nine minutes to score twice against Ipswich, putting Liverpool two goals ahead before the hosts had any real opportunity to settle into the game.

Isak’s nine-minute brace is the earliest a Liverpool player has scored twice in a Premier League match since Maxi Rodríguez achieved the feat against Fulham in May 2011. Rodríguez scored twice by the seventh minute in that match.

That means Isak’s performance at Portman Road ranks as the second-fastest Liverpool brace in the Premier League in the last 16 years.

The timing of the goals was particularly impressive. Isak opened the scoring in the sixth minute after being played in by Gakpo before the pair combined again just three minutes later for Liverpool’s second.

It was also Isak’s first Premier League brace for Liverpool since arriving at the club, making the performance even more significant as he looks to establish himself as one of Iraola’s key attacking weapons.

Only Three Players Have Scored More Than Isak at Portman Road This Century

Isak’s second record is even more unusual

The Swedish forward has now scored five Premier League goals in just two games at Portman Road, despite never having played for Ipswich Town.

Since the turn of the century, only three players have scored more Premier League goals at Portman Road than Isak.

That makes the stadium a particularly productive venue for the Liverpool striker. His record is even more remarkable considering his goals have come despite having no connection with Ipswich as a former player.

His latest two goals also underline just how quickly Isak has found his rhythm under Iraola. After scoring against Nottingham Forest in Liverpool’s previous Premier League fixture, the striker has now continued his strong start with another decisive contribution.

Iraola Gets His First Liverpool Win

While Isak will take most of the headlines, Liverpool’s clean sheet and overall control will also please Iraola. Ronald Araújo made his first start for the club, while new signing Bradley Barcola was introduced from the bench for his Liverpool debut.

For Iraola, it was the perfect response after Liverpool opened the campaign with consecutive 2-2 draws.

The Reds will now be hoping to continue their undefeated Premier League run next week when Iraola’s Liverpool face Fulham at home.
